FRIDAY APRIL 24, 1908" The rosult ef the primaries shows that all were elected mauy of them to stay at borne. The city of Eugene hai just decided by a vote of five to one to buy the ulant from a private concern and hereafter operate ita own water sys tern. The consideration waa $140,000. Senator Fulton's equivocation on Statement No. 1 and the tSollislon fol lowing remind ui of the old yet ever reoorring incident of the imall boy and the gun "he didn't know that it wm loaded." In Nebraska, railroad employe who drink 'are under the ban, and it i significant to note in Mil connection that many ol the town along the Borlintgon went "dry" at the April election, The Med ford Mail seems to be doing all kind of thing of late. It reoenlty put In a new Mergenthaler typeset ting machine, and then lat Thursday the editor of the paper, A. 8. Bliton, married Miss 'Ida Redden. Their honeymoon includes a review of the naval fleet at San Francisco, all of which naturaly impresses the brethren that Medford most be a good new paper town to stand all Ibis pressure Id one newspaper offioe in so short a time. May the Mail continue to pros per. When large corporations, like the railroad oompanles, for instanoe, are oont noally weeding out those of their employes who are frequent patrons of the saloons, it is eioellent vldenoe that bnainese and boose will not assimilate and.that the young'mao who eipetcs to get on In the world must keep away from the flowing bowl if he would eucoeed. The lact that many men say that they can take a drink or let it alone does not alter the 'ootoome with thoostnds who have said the same thing and who have sacrificed home, friends. position and even fortune over the saloon bar. Even the temperate drinker seldom stops short of a terri ble fall over the abyss of confirmed Inebriety. It were better to put the temptation out of the way than to have to reinstate the fallen. RULE OR RUIN. There Is an Immense auicuut of clat tor these days about what is going to rule or rnln our country. Unpriu clpltHl, grasping corporate bxlios, fre trade, high tat iff, eto., but the real undercurrent and maelstrom of dotrnction Is seldom hinted at by the great agitator. Talk about large un principled corporate bodies, there is nothing in all chrltiidoui euual to the lienor oligarchy, it command more uionoy, wields more influence and dnmus the whole country more thnu all the so-called corrupt lnotl tut loin combined; it leads to more slriki'S or insurrection, breeds more anntchiHta, cauaoa more disasters, jHivcrty and discontent thnu sught elue, and wen the evil corrected to day, the big end of the labor question and flintnoial strait of communities would bo solved; but the two great dominant partlo have but one theme tu wrtnglo over, protection and free trade, and while they are knocking and curflng and accomplishing noth ing, fare iiTikiuMiug for place and power, whiaky is working the eternal rain of the Both are so com pletely environed u the whisky in terests there is little hope for sxtrica- for men who toil Levi 'Strauss & Co's Cupper Riveted Overalls the kind thai "WBaKS cut fuO this ol selected draua tion for either.and it It a positive fact and ai troe a prophecy wm ever ot tered In holy writ, if both remalo at tbey are, with out some intervening power to rise ap. the great financial traiti, oppression and destitution will never be remedied, but the nation be finally enveloped this onderly- ins current of destruction that re ceive! icarce a pawing notice) from either, saving wordi of contempt- BOKH.
