that school is in session in the dis
trict. The following exoeptious are
made:
ThoFe being taught privately the
branches taught in the schools. The
school board is to examine soch child
ren. Those physically nimble to at
tend. A written certiScate of a com
petent physician is necessary. Those
between 9 and 10 who live more than
1' miles from the school home and
who live three miles from name.
Those attending private or parochial
schools. Srhool board to examine.
Vpmi conviction parent or guardian
is subject to a fine of uot less tban (5
nor more than $2.", or imprisonment
from 2 to 10 davi or both fine and
imprisonment
In districts of the first class the
police at the request of the school
board or a citizen may be appointed
truant officer. The board will make
this appointment for the Medford
District next Monday.
Truant officer is to be notified by
Superintended of neglect on part of
the parent cr guardian to tend child
ren to school and must send written
notice in person or registered mail.
Popil moil be'in school the following
Monday with proper books. The
truant officer will notify the super
intendent at the same time and un
less the child arprara in school the
superintendent will again notify the
traant officer who will file complaint
against parent oi goardlan within ;
three days., before a jtmtire of the
peace. Said justice will issue war
rant and upon conviction of parent
or guardian the penalty falls as
above.
- The truant officer shall alio investi
gate all cases of non-attendance at
school.
Any school official who fails in bin
duty in the above after proper notifi
cation is sobject to a fine of from t-r
to f-0 for each offense.

Cupid's machinations are being
somewhat undone by the way the
suits for divorce are being filed In the
circuit court these days. Among the
late couples who have decided that it
would be better for them to hence
forth travel iu single harness ure the
following :
Isaac Kindley by hln attorney Geo.
W. Colvig seeks to Lave the matri
monial bonds binding him to Rachel
Findley dissolved. From the com
plaint it seems that they were mar
ried here iu Josephine county June 3,
1006, but that the wife deserted him
during the month of September, 1906
and has ever since lived away from
him.
Attorney H. D. Norton bss entered
suit on behalf of Addie Iilalock
against her husband Norman H.
Blalock, to whom she was married
in Josephine county January 8, 1907
but who was it would seem not eligi
ble to enter into the marriage con
tract with her as he was still, she
avers the husband of one Nettie
Williams. But he says he deceived
her and made her think that be was
divorced frois the other woman,
which she now believes was not the
case and she thinks thst he Is still
the husband of the Wil1iimi woman
and so she wants the court to declare
the marriage null and void.
Because his wife, Hattle Gross de
serted him in July, lflOfl Henry Gross
to whom she was married io this
county December 24. 1900 he appears
In court by Geo. W. Colvig, his at
torney and seeks to have the bonds
declared of no effect. He says that
he treated his "better half" in a kind
and considerate msnner and that she
never had any cause for leaving him.

Taxes Soon Deliquent.
Under the old law, delinquent taxes
s had to be advertlnod before In
coming a lieu on the proierty, aud
at delinquent saWanyoue was allowed
to pay the taxes and receive a pro
visional title, redeemable by prior
owner within three years. The new
law abolishes the advertising feature,
but provides that when tax becomes
delinquent, any oue may pay the
amount due and receive a certificate
which entitles him to xisseasinn In
cane prior owner fails to redeem the
certificate with interest before the
expiration of Hires years. It was
voted as the sense of the association
that the certificate plan does not ap
ply to the 1907 levy.
Miscellaneous.
The foes received in County Clerk
Cheshire's office during the month of
August, amounted to $.'68.
"Jim"' McCnmber, the much
wanted jailbird who sawed out of jail
the ot tier Scuday Is still making
himself scarce in these parts.; No
trace of the fellow has yet been found
by Sheriff Russell.
The courthouse lawn looks good'to
