A. C. and the Grants Pass High School played the first Banket ball game of the season at the A. A. C. hall It resulted, after 40 minutes of hard work, in a glorious victory of 8 to 3. in favor of the High School. The Girls' Basket Ball team is plauning for a series of games with Aahla'id normal, the first of which will probably be played in a few week. This will be their first match game. During the past week the Fresh men and Sophomores held their class meeting for the purpose of electing their clans editor for our High School Paper. These meetings resalted in Marion Clarke being elected by the Freshmen and Detune Cole by the Sophomores. A practice debate will be held in the High School Assembly Room, Friday afternoon on the question, "Resolved, That the l.'ith amendment to the constitution should be re pealed." The same subject 00 which oar High School Debating team will debate with Roseburg on February 8. It will be held to as to give the team practice in speaking also to obtain arguments which might lie used by Roseburg in the final. It will also give the team a better understand ing of the subject. It will be affirmed by Bessie Leith, Amy Isaac, Henry Norton, and denied by Herbert Gilkey, Harold O'Neill and Rau dall Hood. For Scientific leoos on the violiu applv to R R. Turner. Instructor in Physics. Phone 643. The Freshmen class of 1910, so far has proven itseif superiorto any of the preceeding classes. If yon doubt it, ask anyone of our teacher and they will toll you, one and all, that we are wonders. For the ability to grasp and absorb knowledge, it would be hard to surpass us. The Sophomore olaaa, whloh, if they will kindly re member, were Freshmen lust year themselves, are inclined to think they are able to outshine us in wisdom. But when we are Sophomores, we will be as renowned as we are as Freshmen and as they are unknown. By Fresh ie. All thoie who attended the recital of our talented schoolmate, Aluia Wolke, greatly enjoyed the rare treat which she offered them. She has a strong touch and playa with a great deal of expression and understanding. We predict for her a sooceasfal musi cal career. She will undontedly become one of the noted artists of the day. All the match games played by the Grants Pa a Basket Rail Team will probably lie won by it, owing to the fact that some of the Freshmen who are excellent players are among its members. They are the ones who will do the winniug. CLASSIFIED ADS. FOR SALE. FRESH COW for salts Phone '.'SO. I ll -'t HOUSEHOLD furaittire. Inquire of Mrs. C. The second year Euglub class never realized the length of a poem until : they began to rueasore LoDgfellow'i Evangeline by the foot. If you do uot exactly like the text book in stenography now in use in our High School, !just wait until Fritz Dean ha completed the one he; baa in contemplation. Doubtless it will be the one ufed by all the first class stenographers I efore long. 1 The Botany class has been gardening the past week. Their turnips are doing fine, but their lettuce, beans and potatoes have not yet showu any signs of life. However the stupiduess on the rart of the potato seem due to an external cause. When the botany class plaoed the potato iu the water, they did not realize what a temptation it would be , to the passers by. But ome student, iaboriog under an overwhelming ap petite, was unable to resist the great temptation and so hindered the growth of our potato by taking a good sized bite from the top. The culprit is still at large but the botany class is on the lookout. Beware! Don't eat the next potato. The Basket Ball girl desire to have it known that not on account of their noise, as was announced last week, bat on account of the disturbance made by the Boys of the Boys team, tiiey were compelled to move to the A. A. C. building. For we all know that the stronger sex is the noisier. Curious how Adam's example effects even our High schoolboys We are glad to report that Gladys Archer has fully recovered from a severe attack of pneomouia and is again iu school. The Freshmen regret to say that they have lost from their Latin class two of their students, whom they all miss deeply. Luckily it was not the oue boy. The Fourth year Arithmetic class would appreciate the gift of an add ing machine. The impulse to help a friend In trouble is certainly a very praise worthy one. However, it might be well to advise some members of the Stenography class to cultivate a low j and gentle voice, before they act on the impulse in recitation time. A friend has come to see Miss B. She ' says that it is the most important' thing that has happened to her for a , long time. Free-concerts are given each morn ing by Prof. Turner. Somtimes it is 00 the violin, other times it is on the guitar, mandolin, or banjo in fact just anything if you can atretch your imagination to make it found like it. He will, however, geuerally tell you before he begins, what he intends to play so you will not think you are litteuiug to a violin when it is only a three-stringed banjo.
