Column All matter for this column Is supplied by the brant Pass Woman's ChrKUan Temperance Union. Mrs. Sarah M. Perkins, a temper ance worker for 70 yeara, has passed on to her home beyond. Her death was due to an accident which occur red ia the streets of her home city, Cleveland, O. Mrs. Perkina literally died in the harness, and those who know her believe she woold have wished it so. She said "Life is grand and beaotiful, and sometimes I wonder if even Heaven will bring me such blessed opportunities for doing good as I now enjoy." She was one of the old crusaders whose ranks are rapinly thinning oat and soon they will be "Only remembered by what they have done," but that is much for the cause of Ood aud humanity. She was a friend and co-worker with Mrs. Elizi J. T. Thompson called the Mother of the Crusade," who passed away at her borne Id Hillsboro, O. , on November 8d, after weeks of snfferiog. She left a written message to her children and friends bearing date Jnne, l'JOfl. "My dear children and friends, when the chariot swings low enough for me to step in let all things be done quietly, modestly and humbly; no display. Saved by grace must be my theme on earth and in heaven. " Mrs. Thompson was born August 4, 181ft, was married to Judge Thomp son in 1837 and passed to the borne beyond in 1905, being full f years and honors. The subject of her fun eral sermon had been chosen by her self and is suggestive tJ all engaged in work for the Lor 1, "The Influence of Religion upon a Human Life." Dr. W. J. McHnrnly of Oxford, pas tor ol the Prosbyterian church at Hillsboro at the time of the Crusade gave reminisceuces of that great event citing her sympathetic spnit as the basis of ber wonderful influence over others. Dr. Dio Lewis of Boston in a t utt erance lecture at Hillsboro set in motion the mig'ity forces which led to the Crusa le aud on December 3, 187.'), the women of that city went forth believing in this righteous cause aud that God's hand was lead ing thcuu on. Mrs. Thompson's sou came home from the luecting aud toid her she via the one chosen by the ladies as leador for this mission. She thought she cosld not go, but with the encouragement of i or family, and strength .from the Bource that niver fails she weut. Her (laughter said "Mother, I have been praying t:io ; I opened tho book nt these words and I iniuK tiiey are lor yon." and so "Our Crusade Psalm" (the 1411. Ii) was chosen. The women gathered in the First Presbyterian Church at II lls boro. The spirit of God was upon them and t1 ose whoso v ices had uovtr before been beard in public prayer were given strength aud power. Much was accomplished by tiii. move ment, although its duration in America was only about two months. The saloons were driven from 2.ri0 towus aud villages, church attendance increased aud crime greatly decreased, and iu 1874 the W. O. T. U. was or ganized to work for Ood and Home and uative laud.
