TOWN IMPROVEMENT. Mu to latarttat k Cmramcil la tha Miltir. The effort to form a union of all Organization! that bavt for their object the beautifying of towna and cltle Which will be made lu connection wltl tha convention of tha American Turk and Outdoor association In ItutTiilo next year will be widely approved, aaya th Buffalo Express. Most of the law cltlea and many towns and village have such associations and would glad ly Join In the proposed movement One of the objects of forming a union la to Interest the government In tha work and get Its support to the extent of collecting and making public Infor mation on the subject, with photo graphs, eta, showing what enn be done by organlied effort The government's work would presumably be largely to show what has been done In foreign towns and cities. The Individual or ganizations have acconipllxlicd mucn as It is, but there la a limitless field In which to work, and government aid Would be valuable. Every city In the country and ninny towns are, for Maniple, filled with un sightly billboards and dlnplny adver tising In the form of Immense paintings on buildings, etc. The Improvement so cieties have given their attention to this matter for a long time, with con siderable success. The courts lu sev eral states have upheld the right of a city to regiilnte the size of blllbonnlH, and thero Is every reason for believing that In the not distant future billboards will have disappeared from towns and cities. The enre and planting of trees and shrubs, straightening tlio sidewalk lines, removal of sidewalk and lot fences and the beautifying of bach yards are a few of the other changes which should be made lu towns and cities. The ijueHtlon of arehltecturo Is another Important point There Is plen ty of work to be done In Improvement, and any movement such ns tho pro posed union of the separate societies which promises to help the cause should be heartily supported. VILLAGE ATTRACTIONS. iomatklna Keedrtl to Offiel (' of Modern Convenience!. Telephones, rural mall routes, Inter urban and trolley lines have had the effect It Is said, of making small towns and villages more quint than formerly, says the Indianapolis Journal. Now that the furin telcphono has comr Into use, Its owner does not "hitch up' and go to tho vllluge as formerly to ilo his errands. lie telephones to the storekeeper bis order for goods and asks hlin to send them out by trolley or by the first man traveling that way; he consults the din-tor over the tele phone and talks with his friends In the Tillage In the saino way. The mall Is brought to his gate anil thus relieves him of tho necesalty of n dally trip. Ills relations with the blacksmith remain unchanged, for no way has been yet tie vised whereby that useful personage can shoe a horse or mend a wagon without having horse tld vehicle prom-nt, but these need are not of daily occurrence, and so It happens that the little street or opcD square which vti,n wont to seem ul most crowded Willi horses and vehi cles at certain hours every tiny or on certain days In t tit week now often Wears a deserted look, and the real dents are conscious of u senso of lone liness. They any, too.'tlint when oneo a tnnn gets on a trolley car with Intent to make a iiireliiiao ho goes to a larger town and that this Is particularly true of his wife or daughter on a similar er rand. All this Is a natural but rather curious development following the ex tended use of lutHlern conveniences, and what remedy tho vllliik'c has Is not plain, lis only hopu Is apparently to oatabllali attractions of a social or it 111 cutlonul nittliro that w ill offset the loas In other directions and will draw- lis rural neighbors there for nuiubeiucut aud entertainment. AN EXCELLENT PLAN. Oond t'ltlaenkliln Lessors rromote til tjruwtli tt n. Town. To promote the grow th nf n town uu excellent plan Is to form nil or-imlxa tlon, under any inline, having fur lis object everything tending to Improve the town, Increase Its population, pro mote the Introduction of new Indus tries; also to look afler the taxation of the property embraced lu the town and to secure the pnmiiKU of ordinances and laws conducive to tho prosperity of the place and the comfort of those making their homes there. There should be elected a board of officers, eoiislntluK of re proicutiillvf business men ami coiumlltees appoint ed to look after stale and local lci;lsln tlon, filiation and village expenditure, enforcement of village ordinances, eon dlllou and appearance of streets and public places, travel aud cotniiuiiil. a tlon, educalluii, water supply, nctv:ii;e aud sanitary affairs, new Industries and memlH-rslilp. If controlled by the proper spirit, such au oig-'inlxutluu cannot but b conducive to the growth and prosper ity of any tow n. Tuvtra luiiirovrmr-ut Hints. Outdoor housekeeping Is Just its Itn portnnt as Indoor housekeeping. Waste paper receptacles placed ou street corners will help greatly hi keep ing the streets free of rubbish. etc. One of the last way a to beuutlly front and hack viirtla Is to Interest oil 11 dren In this work. Village Improvement societies are a power lu building up tow ns tun! keep 1 1 iK them clean and lcitutlful. Neatly trllnuiiil trees and lawns add greatly to the appeuruiico of a street. "With pleasure I write to-day in praise of Dr. Pierce and his medicines," says Mrs. Mary Con way, of Apjileton, I.nwreiice Co., Tenn. Pierce's Favorite Prescription restores weak and sick women to sound health, by curing the local womanly diseases which are generally responsible for the failure of the general health. A woman's entire being is centered in her womanly nature, When the delicate womanly organism is attacked by disease ; when there is irregularity or a disagree able drain ; when inflammation burns and ulcers gnaw, the general health will reflect the progress of disca-v, in increasing weakness, nervousness, hack aclie, headache, loss of appetite and sleeplessness. lr. Pierce's Favorite Prescription cures all these ailments, and cures them perfectly and permanently. It wipes out the record of suffering "as a child w ipes a sum from a blate. It makes the woman fed like a new woman, and look like one, because it rounds out the form and restores the healthy color to the fa.-e. , "Willi a heart full of (rratitude to you for sending out over the laud your wonderful modi --ine I send these few lines, hopim; tlwt some other poor suffering women will try lir.
