IJWhile working In tunnel U, a man had a big timber fall on his foot and broke it. He went to the hospital at Portland It was said that a little more caution on his part would have averted the accident. There Is some controversy here re gardin American principles. We olalm in the country districts Ameri can principles are more strongly de voloped as the towns are jiopulaU'd more by foreigners. We learn that a deal is about to be consummated on Mt. Ruebou for big mining deal of several ledges by New York capllists. It will be no small deal as the mines are known to bo rich so it will take money to buy tliem. Ita is astonishing the amount of heavy machinery that is being hauled to the Greenliack. Where, when the roads were good, four horses could pall a big load, now it takes six big horses. They camo from the Pass as heavy wagons are needed. Since my last writing we havo had some damp weather, so it has retarded farming but it gives the miners plenty of water although some of the mines were not ready for water. That Is al ways the case. Borne are always be hind with tholr work. As the. framera cannot plow and sow they are busy doing other neces sary work which all farmers have to do if they have the spirit to do odd jolts. Such farmers always find plenty of work on tho farm. Stock Is doing well; grass is growing fine; early wheat Is doing well; no heavy frosts yet to stop grass or grain from grow lug. What is tho matter with the editor of tho Oregoniaii? In reading some of his editorials we are wondering what kind of a flea is biting him. He is criticising the president's message. Ho finds so much fault, also condemns It, that we don't know from his juper whether he is a republican, a demo crat, or a jmpulist. If he is a good republican, why should ho condemn the message f Some parties havo lately arrived from Mt Huebeii. They report live ly times In that district The wagon road that was KMtioned is alxiut to be constructed by the Copxr Stain Com pany, also others that will give Le land a direct route to Gold Dug and other mines In that district Con sidering the character of tho road lied and tho geographical jiositiou of Lo land to the Mt Reuben country, It is very feasible. Lcland mer chants send a large amount of goods to that country. Times are quiet here; business is good, no sickness to report, no big storms. Occasionally light ram enough to kocp the grass growiug and the dust from flying. Wldo Awake. Toplc&l Bible. Southern Oration Cider. The cider factory of the Southern Oregon Cider and Vinegar Company will close down for the season in few days very likely, as about all the apples fit for tho purpose have bee ground. A carload was received from Grants Pass this week, and when this is ground up thero will proliably be no more handled this season. There aro now 10 large tanks, each holding between 3,000 and 4,000 gallon of appli juice, besides numerous liarrel and kegs. In addition to this, quite a large amouut of cider has been sluiiiied to different points for sale. Attention will now bo directed to the making of a quantity of the elder into vine gar, for which the apples of Southern Oregon are said to bo peculiarly adapt cd. Men Ore &t Gold Hill Messrs.
