The ladies of the Presbyterian church gave "An Evening in China'' social on Tuesday evening in the church parlors. There was a good attendance and the evening was one of enjoyment to all present. A very entertaining program of musical numbers and readings dec criptive of Chinese life and mission work there was given and there was a very interesting exhibit of Chinese curios. Refreshments of tea and cakes were served. No admission fee was charged, the object being to awaken interest in missionary work, Geo I'heby has been obliged to tem porarily abandon the photograph busi ness on account of ill health, and in tends to devote his time principally to draughting and map work. Ilo will, however, continue his .view work, and (luring his recuperation from his recent severe illness will visit the various mines aud scenes of interest with his view camera. Wui. Bybee.of the Bybee sod spring, was in Medford a couple of daya this week. Mr. Bybee ia negotiating with a colonv of eastern people for the aale of bis 1400-acrc ranch on Rogue river, and it was to meet a representative of this colony that he was in Medford. Mr, Bybee owns over 4000 acres of land in Jackson County which he intends to sell in tracts suitable to purchasers, after which he will retire from active work. Mail. The ladies of the Baptist church gave a social and chicken pie supper on Fri day evening at the I. O. O. F. hall The attendance was fair, but would have been much better had it not been for the very intemporate quality of the wea'her on that evening. All those attending agree as to the excellent quality of the supper served which was one of the best in its line that has been given in our city. A phonograph fur nished music and assisted materially in the evenings entertainment. Byron Dunkin was thawing out pow der in a fire gallon can by the beat of a candie at the mine of Dr. Ray, on Galls creek yesterday. He had completed drilling and was going to get the dyna mite to load the holes when, with a terrific report, the explosive went off, taking Mr. Duukin'a coat, which covered the can, and spreading remnants of wearing apparel over the aurrounding country.
