Council Meeting
The c ly council met in adjourned
•ess ion, Friday evening, July 1.3, with
the mayor iu the chair and t'ouncilmen
Smith, Kuydendall, Punbar, Fetech and
Rehkopf at roll call. Hood and McGrew
arrived a little later.
The «aloon bund and license petition
of E. Kienlen, with Joseph Wolke and
lieu. Altpeter as sureties, was presented
and. on motion, the bund wax accepted
and license granted.
An ordinance providing for a dog tax
was read the first time. Thia ordinance
is the same in intent as luv prt«ont or
dinance but is constructed to »‘over cer­
tain defects which ate apparent in the
one now in force.
An ordinance was then read providing
for sewer connections and regulating the
manner of plumbing. It was read the
second time by title. It was decided
that the inspection of plumbing should
be left iu the hands of th« committee on
city improvements, who should have
authority, if necessary, to Lire a compe­
tent plumber to inspect any piece ol
work. The ordinance passed to its third
reading, when it was taken up section
by section, read, discussed ami amended
iu aunie parts. It was passed unani­
mously.
This ordinance is one of much impor­
tance and regulates in a very complete
manner lhe details of plumbing and con­
nections and proper trapping and pro­
vides for the escape of the sewer gas by
pipes whose ¡»osition in regard to doors,
windows or chimneys is regulated by
the terms of the ordinance It provides
that no terra cotta pipe shall be laid un­
der buildings, but that iron pipe shall
tie u*ed and shall extend rive feet from
the outer wall. This is for the purpose
of preventing the breakage of pipe by
lhe weight or aettling of the building
The ordinance is modeled after the
plumbing ordinance of the city of Port­
land, modified to suit the different con­
ditions of a smaller town.
A petition for a bridge across Gilbert
creek on II street was presented and
referred to the street committee to re­
port at the next regular meeting, On
motion, council adjourned.

circuit court was finished last week and
court a a» adjourned on Wednesday even­
ing. In addition to those reported in

attention :
Harry E. Myrick, a minor, was or­
dered committed to the reform school
upon complaint of his parents.
J. H. Winded vs. English Canadian
Co. Ltd.; den urrer overruled and de­
fendant given 20 days to aoswer com­
plaint and plaintiff 10 days in which to
reply.
H. it Ferree vs. Geo. Hoffman admin­
istrator ol estate ot John Bolt, deceased,
J. I'. Tuffs and Fred Guyer; default en­
tered against Guver.
Ellen F. HI. Ixiuis vs. H. E. Booth;
