A Mother Son Dance is set for 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, and the Daddy Daughter Dance is from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9. Both will be at Seaside Civic and Con- vention Center. In addition to dancing with a disc jockey, there will be food, games, a photo booth, dance instructions and a raffle. The cost is $25 per couple and $5 for each additional child. The event is sponsored by TLC Fibre Federal Credit Union and Lum’s Auto Cen- ter. “Savvy Caregiving,” a free six-session training program designed for caregivers who serve family members and friends with dementia/Alz- heimer’s, will be held 10 a.m. to noon Fridays, beginning Feb. 8. The program is sponsored by NW Senior and Disability Services and will be held at the office, 2002 S.E. Choke- berry Ave., Warrenton. The goal of Savvy is to in- crease knowledge and skills to lessen caregiver stress and improve levels of care. In- cluded is information about dementia, its progressive losses, caregiving skills, set- ting flexible goals, involv- ing family and friends, and reducing caregiver health risks. To register, call Suzanne Bjaranson at 503-861-4202. Area students get college honors Seven local students were named to the dean’s list of their universities for the fall 2018 term. Abby Mathews of Warren- ton, Whitney Westerholm of Seaside and Danielle Wil- liams of Cannon Beach were named to the dean’s list for Eastern Oregon University. Four local students were named to the dean’s list at Pacific University. The students were Brittany Nyberg, Kaneah Owen and Hailey Ranta of Astoria and Danielle Keen of Seaside. To qualify for Pacific’s dean’s list, a student must achieve a term grade-point average of 3.7 while complet- ing 12 or more course units. Eastern Oregon’s dean’s list requires a 3.5 gpa and at least 12 course hours.
