Carlson, 30, both of Warrenton, were cited for criminal contempt after they failed to show up in court. • Arrest warrant, 8:54 a.m. Jan. 11, Hotel Elliott, Astoria. Kelsey Penrod, 31, with no known address was booked at Clatsop County Jail on a warrant from Las Vegas for drunken driving. t hefts and Burglaries • Forgery and attempted theft, 1:23 p.m. Jan. 10, Columbia Bank. A teller called police when the signature on a check being cashed didn’t match the account holder. Mark Daniel Crouch, 37, of Warrenton was arrested on suspicion of forgery, attempt theft and third-degree theft and booked at Clatsop County Jail. He also was cited for criminal possession of an invalid driver’s license and driving while sus- New district attorney sworn into post Ron Brown was sworn in on Jan. 7 as Clatsop County’s new district attorney. Brown ran unopposed for the seat in the May 15 prima- ry election. He replaces Josh Marquis, who retired as district attor- ney after more than 24 years in the post. Brown has served as chief deputy in the Clatsop County District Attorney’s Office for 14 years. A native of Klamath Falls, he graduated from Oregon State University in 1976 and earned a law degree from the University of Oregon School of Law in 1979. He served in district attor- ney’s offices in Lane, Lincoln and Deschutes counties from 1979 to 1989, and practiced in a private law firm in Bend until 1997, when he joined the Crook County District Attorney’s Office as chief deputy. A woman reported she’d set her wallet down on a trash can and forgot about it. By the time she’d returned home and realized it was missing, store employees reported the wallet was gone. • Shoplifting, 10:20 p.m. Jan. 10, Walmart. Two women allegedly were observed changing scan codes on merchandise, conceal- ing other items in a purse and failing to ring up some items at self-checkout. Danielle M. Ayl- ward, 42, of Long Beach, Wash., was cited for criminal theft and criminal mischief for damaging $10 in merchandise, shoplifting $5 and under-ringing $60 in merchandise. She and a second woman were trespassed from the store. • Theft, 5 p.m. Jan. 11, Walmart. A cashier was observed over a two-month period failing to pay for items she’d selected or failing to scan items others selected at the store. Cynthia Jean Newell, 58, of Hammond was cited for criminal second-degree theft. • Shoplifting, 9:15 p.m. Jan. 11, Walmart. Nels E. Pedersen, 44, of Naselle was cited for criminal third-degree theft. A man was seen riding the bike lat- er in the day. Christopher James Beeman, 36, of Warrenton was booked at Clatsop County Jail on suspicion of theft and for pro- bation violation; when officers found him, he allegedly had 80 hypodermic syringes in his back- pack and on his person as well as other drug paraphernalia. s uspiCiOus CirCumstanCes / disturBanCes • Dog at large, 1:45 p.m. Jan. 4, 0-100 block Southwest Elm Street.
