Salmon fishers get reimbursements
Clatsop County will soon
disburse a half-million dol-
lars in state money to fish-
ers impacted by changes to
Columbia River commercial
salmon harvesting.
The changes were required
by the Columbia River Re-
form Policy adopted by the
state to protect salmon as a
resource.
The state set aside the mon-
ey in the Columbia River
Transition Fund to provide
compensation for direct eco-
nomic losses and reimburse-
ment for fishing equipment
purchased to comply with the
policy changes. To date, Clat-
sop County is the only county
to apply for the funds.
Letters informing the af-
fected fishers will be sent this
week, according to the coun-
ty. A total of 129 commercial
salmon permit-holders are
eligible for compensation.
The fund was set up by the
Oregon Legislature in 2013
following adoption of a plan
by Oregon and Washington
states to phase out salmon
gillnetting on the Columbia’s
main channel by requiring
fishers to move to off-channel
sites or switch to alternative
gear such as seine nets.
As a result, many commer-
cial fishers invested in new
equipment in anticipation of
the new rules, saw their har-
vests reduced or experienced
other financial impacts.
Eligible recipients will re-
ceive letters informing them
of their individual compensa-
tion. The maximum per eligi-
ble permit-holder is $8,750.
WARRENTON-HAMMOND SCHOOL DISTRICT IS SEEKING
BUDGET COMMITTEE APPLICANTS
The Warrenton-Hammond School District is hereby taking applications
for Budget Committee members.
The budget committee will have the responsibility for reviewing the fi-
nancial program of the district, reviewing the proposed district budget as
presented by the superintendent and recommending an annual or biennial
district budget in keeping with the provisions of applicable state laws.

Members must live and be registered to vote in the Warrenton-Ham-
mond School District
•
Members must not be an officer, agent or employee of the Warren-
ton-Hammond School District
•
Members normally serve a three-year term, but some positions are
completing other terms of office and may be shorter in duration.

Road work

• DeLaura Beach Lane is closed
west of Ocean View Cemetery
through Tuesday, Aug. 14. A new
culvert was installed and county
crews will pave the road.
• County crews will seal pave-
ment on Dellmoor Loop, West
Anderson Road Perkins Lane
and Dolphin Road.
C latsop C ounty
• A project to widen John Day
River Road begins Monday, Aug.
13. The road is about a half-mile
east of the John Day boat ramp
near Astoria. Drivers can expect
delays up to 20 minutes.
• Crews will mow and remove
brush on Youngs River Road,
Beerman Creek Lane and south
of Seaside. Projects to seal pave-
ment will take place on Hillcrest
Loop, Lewis and Clark Road and
in the Knappa/Svensen area.

• Highway 30: Clatskanie Bluffs
rockfall repair and screening
could cause minor delays.
Flaggers will control single-lane
traffic. Work is expected to be
complete by Aug. 14.
W ashington C ounty
• Highway 47: Replacement
of the Beaver Creek Bridge in
Washington County will cause
delays and single-lane closures
with flaggers. A 60-day full-road
closure will begin Aug. 6, with
detours on Timber Junction Rd.
Correction
There will be no beer garden
this weekend at Regatta Square
in downtown Astoria, according
to the event’s sponsor.
