Help with cancer treatment problems A free program for women dealing with physical prob- lems caused by chemothera- py and radiation will be held this month in Astoria. “Look Good Feel Better” is sponsored by the American Cancer Society. It focuses on hair loss, skin changes and other issues and will provide techniques to make the most of one’s appearance during treatment. Participants also get a $200 make-up package. It’s a Lutheran celebration 500 years in the making First Lutheran Church kicks off the 500th anniversary celebration of the Protestant Reformation with a concert at 4 p.m. Sat- urday, Oct. 7, at the church, 725 33rd St., Astoria. Several area Lutheran churches – as well as Lutherans and Christians around the world – are joining to honor and celebrate the movement that began in 1517 by Mar- tin Luther and ended up reforming the church. Paul Tegels, associated professor of mu- sic and university organist at Pacific Lu- theran University in Tacoma, will present the concert. Tegels has performed extensively in solo and ensemble in the United States, Eu- rope, Japan and New Zealand. He has per- formed at national conventions of the Or- gan Historical Society and has play some of the most significant organs in the United States. “Reformation 500,” a community event, will conclude the monthlong celebration at 2 p.m. Nov. 4 at Peace Lutheran Church, 565 12 St., Astoria. It includes a worship service at 2 p.m. with Bishop David Bauer-Rieke preaching. And offering designated for Hope House in As- toria will be collected. At 3:20 p.m., there will be breakout sessions about music and art of the Reformation. Fam- ily and children’s activities begin at 3:40 p.m., followed by a dinner at 5 p.m. Cost for dinner is $10 per person or $25 per family and reservations are required. As mentioned by columnist Emma Edwards recently, there are an estimated 500 rock-painting groups in the United States with the goal of making people smile and spreading kindness through their creations, which are left at random places in the com- munity.
