September 8, 2017 a rrests • Two-vehicle hit-and-run collision, 6:56 p.m. Aug. 30, Highway 101 at Neptune. A Woodinville, Wash., man driving a Toyota Corolla was rear-ended by a blue Chevy S10 pickup that fled the scene, but was located a short distance away. Elvis E. Lang, 41, of Warrenton was arrested on suspicion of hit- and-run and cited for following too closely and having no valid license. He was released with a promise to appear in court Sept. 19. • Illegal camping, 12:33 p.m. Sept. 3, Hammond viewpoint. A woman camping in her car was contacted and, when an officer ran her information, discovered she had an active warrant for contempt of court. Cindy Jane Hall, 49, of Hammond was arrested on the warrant and re- leased with a promise to appear in court two days later. t hefts • Shoplifting, 2:06 p.m. Aug. 29, Walgreens. A man who didn’t want to wait in line threw $2 on the counter and walked out without having his item rung up. Not knowing what he was purchasing or what it was worth, the store manager followed him to his car and requested to know what he had in his hand. The man refused and employ- ees called police. Through his license plate number, the 66-year-old Astoria man was located at his home and nearly arrested when he wouldn’t coop- erate with the officer. But, once in handcuffs, the man cooperat- ed. Walgreens asked that he be trespassed from the store. s uspiCious CirCuMstanCes / disturBanCes • Trespassing, 10 p.m. and again at 11 p.m., Aug. 28, Hammond Mooring Basin. A Hillsboro man who was illegally camping in his vehicle on the beach was told to leave and agreed to comply. When the officer returned an hour later, the man was asleep behind the wheel of his vehicle in the same location. The man told the officer he’d been drink- ing and “didn’t want a DUI.” He was allowed to remain, but warned he’d be cited for illegal camping if found again on city property. • Neighbors fighting, 5 p.m. Aug. 29 and 11 p.m. Aug. 30, 500 block Northwest Ridge Road, Hammond. Two women who live next to each other and have had a longstanding feud contin- ued to point fingers at the other in two incidents. One woman accused her neighbor of gouging Be Smart!
