OES Youth Orchestra presents
pair of free concerts

ENDLETON — The Oregon
East Symphony’s youth
orchestra will play two spring
concerts this month.
The fi rst is Thursday, May
19, at Vert Auditorium, 480 SW
Dorion Ave. The music starts at
7 p.m.
On Friday, May 20, the
orchestra will add music to the
Pendleton Farmers Market start-
ing at 5:30 p.m. The market is
held on South Main Street.
Both performances are free.
The youth orchestra is OES’s
intermediate level preparatory
orchestra. Under the direction
of Zach Banks, OES educa-
tion director, the musicians will
perform Brahms’ “Academic
Festival Overture,” Rimsky-
Korsakov’s “Capriccio Espag-
nol,” Tchaikovsky’s “Themes
from Romeo & Juliet” and the
“Finale” from Beethoven’s
“Fifth Symphony.”
Both concerts will also
feature the Preludes Orches-
tra under the direction of Viet

formance. Symphony Strings is
an after-school beginning clas-
sical strings education program,
in collaboration with Pendleton
School District, for local fourth
and fi fth grade students.
Kindle said Symphony
Strings students learn basic
playing techniques on an instru-
ment of their choice (violin,
viola, cello), and learn how to
read music at an elementary
level and how to perform as part
of a string ensemble.
