The fi rst is Thursday, May 19, at Vert Auditorium, 480 SW Dorion Ave. The music starts at 7 p.m. On Friday, May 20, the orchestra will add music to the Pendleton Farmers Market start- ing at 5:30 p.m. The market is held on South Main Street. Both performances are free. The youth orchestra is OES’s intermediate level preparatory orchestra. Under the direction of Zach Banks, OES educa- tion director, the musicians will perform Brahms’ “Academic Festival Overture,” Rimsky- Korsakov’s “Capriccio Espag- nol,” Tchaikovsky’s “Themes from Romeo & Juliet” and the “Finale” from Beethoven’s “Fifth Symphony.” Both concerts will also feature the Preludes Orches- tra under the direction of Viet Ben Lonergan/East Oregonian The Oregon East Symphony Youth Orchestra performed in the Vert Auditorium Jan. 27, 2022. Symphony Strings is an after-school beginning clas- sical strings education program, in collaboration with Pendleton School District, for local fourth and fi fth grade students. Kindle said Symphony Strings students learn basic playing techniques on an instru- ment of their choice (violin, viola, cello), and learn how to read music at an elementary level and how to perform as part of a string ensemble.
