Clara Ann Lemley Five staff members at Blue Mountain Care Center test positive for COVID-19 By Steven Mitchell Blue Mountain Eagle staff and resident safety and reduce the transmission of COVID-19, including: Five staff members at Blue Mountain Care Center in Prai- rie City have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 28 days. The Grant County Health Department and Blue Mountain Hospital Dis- trict announced the results of BMCC’s COVID-19 testing program for employees and residents Tuesday. All five of the positive results are employee-related, with no positive resident test results, according to a press release. These positive test results are components of a required employee testing program man- dated by the Centers for Medi- care and Medicaid Services. Due to these positive tests results, BMCC will be listed on the Oregon Health Author- ity COVID-19 Weekly Report, which summarizes long-term care facilities with three or more positive tests over 28 days ending on Dec. 20. The health department and hospital district believe these positive test results were not facility-spread but acquired from an independent commu- nity spread over the last three weeks. BMCC continues to take numerous steps to maintain • Social distancing and hand hygiene • Suspension of communal activ- ities that cannot maintain social distancing • Temperature checks and screen- ing for symptoms upon facility entry • Limitation of facility entry to employees and essential individuals • Suspension of in-house visita- tion except for compassionate care situations. Visitation options such as window visits and video conferenc- ing have been implemented. • Twice weekly testing of staff and residents as CMS regulations dictate • Assessing residents every shift for symptoms • Proper wearing of masks and eye protection while in the facility • Enhanced sanitation procedures using approved solutions for clean- ing and disinfecting • Ongoing infection control education Asher performance results in award increase Blue Mountain Eagle Asher Community Health Center, a federally quali- fied health center, received a Quality Improvement Award of $76,442 from the Health Resources and Services Administration, according to a press release. William (Bill) Maclean George December 15, 1937 ~ December 2, 2020 CORRECTION Paid for by the family of Bill George Bill often said he was the luckiest guy in the world to have grown up in John Day. He and his friends were always out- doors hiking, camping, hunting or getting into mischief. They had many adventures driving and pushing his 1938 Chevy and the family Jeep. Bill graduated from Grant Union High School (GUHS) in 1955 where he was valedictorian. He grad- uated from the University of Oregon in 1959 where he received the Autzen Foundation scholarship as an Outstanding Business Administration Major. Bill married Mary Anne Brockley that summer and began a successful corporate career with General Electric. There are two children from that marriage, Carole Loy and Daniel George Brockley. Bill served 5 years in the Army Security Agency reserves (6 months active duty). His business career advanced very quickly and he held several manage- ment positions in finance over 18 years with General Electric. In 1977 he became Corporate Controller for Memorex Corporation. Later he became Chief Financial Officer for several companies. He moved to Boise, Idaho in 1979. Bill married Mary Powell in Boise in 1991. They had 30 wonderful years together traveling, hiking, fishing and enjoying time in the Sawtooth Mountains of Idaho, at the Oregon Coast, and in the Sonoran Desert. Bill retired in 1993. In 2013 they decided to settle near Tucson in Marana, Arizona, where they lived at the time of his death. In addition to his wife, his children, his grandchildren, Johnny and Danny Loy, his siblings, their families he will be missed by his extended family which included 4 great grandchildren, 3 step children, 6 step grandchildren, and 2 step great grandchildren. His fondness for John Day was very deep and he had hoped to organize another GUHS reunion in 2021 with his classmates from 1955. Instead, there will be a memorial for Bill on June 26 at the Canyon City Cemetery at his “bench.” The memorial bench was placed several years ago. Every year when he visited John Day he loved to go sit on his bench. If you would like to receive additional information of the memorial service contact Mary at maryg316@gmail.com. As per his wishes a scholarship fund has been established at Grant Union High School. Contributions should be sent to Grant Union Alumni, c/o Bill George Memorial Scholarship Fund, 911 S. Canyon Blvd, John Day, Oregon 97845. A MAN WAKES UP in the morning after sleeping on... an advertised bed, in advertised pajamas. The over- all amount is determined by several categories, and Asher qualified in five cate- gories. The funding increase was due to the clinic’s per- formance in award catego- ries, Access Enhancers and Health Disparities Reducers. Of the 30 Oregon FQHCs, Asher was one of only seven of them to receive these two awards. These awards are in recognition of improvement to increasing the number of patients served and patients receiving comprehensive care and health disparities reducers. The funds will be used by Asher to further strengthen the clinic’s qual- ity improvement activities. In the article “Grant County l osing predator control officer” in the Dec. 16 edition, the Eagle incorrectly identified USDA Wildlife Services District Supervisor Shane Koyle as Shane Cowell. The Eagle regrets the error. Bill passed away on December 2, 2020 from bacterial pneumonia, not related to COVID-19. He was born in Portland, Oregon, December 15, 1937. Bill, his parents Mac and Bernice George, and his siblings Robert and Gerry Lou George moved to John Day in 1949 and purchased the Cote d’Or Motel where Bill lived until he left for college.
