NEWS MyEagleNews.com Dollar General completes all permitting with John Day Construction likely to begin in early 2021 By Rudy Diaz Blue Mountain Eagle Dollar General is one step closer to construction in John Day. John Day City Manager Nick Green updated the coun- cil on the Dollar General on Oct. 27 and said that all the permitting with the city was completed. The city signed off on Dol- lar General’s structure permit- ting application, which is cur- rently going through approval from the state. Green said Dollar General also executed their agreement to close on the property. “They’ll go into construc- tion as soon as that permitting goes in on the other side of the winter months,” Green said. “Probably early 2021.” The Zaremba group, on behalf of Dollar General, sub- mitted the application in May to construct a 9,100-square foot store in front of Napa Auto Parts, across the high- way, in between Timbers Bis- tro and the John Day Trailer Park, at 700 W. Main St. The Type III site design review application states under “Requested Land Use Action” that the proj- ect plans to include one freestanding sign, park- ing and landscape improve- ments with 36 parking spaces, including two ADA spaces, and a 36-foot- wide driveway with a new access approach to U.S. Highway 26. Wednesday, November 4, 2020 A5 Grant County reports four new COVID-19 cases Tuesday Total county case count now at 18 By Steven Mitchell Blue Mountain Eagle Grant County has four new COVID- 19 cases, bringing the county’s total case count to 18. The Grant County Health Department confirmed in a press release Tuesday that four people in the John Day and Prairie City ZIP codes tested positive. The health department said they initi- ated contact tracing. The individuals are working with their health care provid- ers for proper care and safety, the press release said, and the department is con- tacting other people who meet the defini- tion of close contacts — within 6 feet for more than 15 minutes. Grant County Health Administrator Kimberly Lindsay said Monday, if case numbers go up, schools may be forced to shut down in-person classes. Lindsay said she does not say that to use fear to get the public to comply with Gov. Harney County is at 39 positive cases and no deaths Tuesday, while nearby Malheur County is at 1,992 cases and 38 deaths. The health department encour- ages all residents to take the following precautions: • Wear masks indoors and outdoors if 6 feet of distancing can not be maintained. • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. • Avoid touching eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands. • Cover mouth and nose when cough- ing or sneezing. • Stay home when feeling ill. After someone contracts COVID- 19, if they develop symptoms, they will usually appear within 14 days, includ- ing fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, body aches, headaches, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion, runny nose, nausea, vomit- ing or diarrhea. The Grant County Health Department urges anyone exhibiting these symptoms to call 211 or 541-575-0429. COPS AND COURTS Arrests and citations in the Blue Mountain Eagle are taken from the logs of law enforcement agencies. Every effort is made to report the court disposition of arrest cases. Grant County Circuit Court Blain S. Ross, 37, pleaded guilty Oct. 29 to a count of driving under the influence of intoxicants and a count of refusal to take a test for intox- icants committed on Aug. 23.
