Sisters awarded Dennis Reynolds Memorial Scholarships Blue Mountain Eagle The Grant County Fam- ily Heritage Foundation and the Dennis Reynolds fam- ily are proud to announce the winners of the 2020 scholarships. Maggie Justice of John Day has been awarded the $500 scholarship for college juniors or seniors. Ellie Jus- tice of John Day has earned the entering freshman’s $500 scholarship. The awards are available to Grant County students who have been very active in 4-H/FFA and are majoring in agricultural related fields. Ellie Justice is enrolled in EDSII to become an ag teacher, and Maggie Justice is majoring in veterinary sci- ence at Walla Walla Univer- sity. Scholarship information will be available again next spring. The GCFHF goal is to promote and support youth in agriculture. Reynolds was a 45-year leader and founding member of the Grant County Family Heritage Foundation. This 15-member citi- zen-based council assists in the development of recommenda- tions that address public land management issues in central and northeastern Oregon. The JDSRAC provides input to managers from the Prineville District BLM, Vale Dis- trict BLM’s Baker Resource Area and the Malheur, Wal- lowa-Whitman, Uma- tilla, Ochoco and Deschutes national forests. “The JDSRAC provides the BLM with vital feedback on current issues and enables us to engage local stakeholders to improve management of public lands,” said Vale District Man- ager Don Gonzalez. “Our goal is to ensure the membership of the JDSRAC encompasses a variety of perspectives to guide our work as effectively as possible.” The BLM maintains the JDSRAC as a means of gain- ing expert advice, ideas, and diverse opinions on issues including land use planning, fire management, off-highway vehicle use, recreation, nox- ious weed management and grazing issues. The JDSRAC supports the bureau’s commit- ment to building a shared con- servation stewardship legacy in central and Eastern Oregon. Individuals may nominate themselves or others to serve on the JDSRAC. Nominees, who must be residents of Ore- gon, will be reviewed based on their training, education and knowledge of the geographic area. Nominees should also demonstrate a commitment to consensus building and collab- orative decision-making. Let- ters of reference must accom- pany all nominations from any represented interests or orga- nizations, a completed RAC application and any other information that speaks to the nominee’s qualifications. The JDSRAC has posi- tions open in the following categories: • Category One: Represen- tatives of organizations asso- ciated with energy/mineral development; federal graz- ing permit holders; the tim- ber industry; transportation or rights-of-way; off-highway vehicles users; and commer- cial and developed outdoor recreation. • Category Two – Repre- sentatives of archeological and historic organizations; dis- persed recreation users; wild horse and burro organizations; and nationally or regional- ly-recognized environmental organizations. • Category Three – Rep- resentatives of state, county or local elected office; Native American tribes located within or adjacent to Eastern Oregon; academicians employed in nat- ural resource management or natural sciences; employ- ees of a state agency respon- sible for management of natu- ral resources; and the public at large. OBITUARIES Lois Jean Moore Charles ‘Larry’ Wright July 26, 1935 — Oct. 14, 2020 April 25, 1929 — Oct. 17, 2020 Charles “Larry” Wright, age 85, of Prairie City, Oregon, Lois Jean Moore died on Oct. 17, 2020, at the age of 91. Lois later for 46 years working for Hines Lumber, married James William Moore, known John Day Lumber and Grant Western as “Dinty,” in John Day.
