Prairie City girls post big win over Ukiah/Long Creek Saturday Saturday, the Lady Panthers beat a short-handed Ukiah/Long Creek team 60-6 to earn their fi rst league win of the season. Ukiah/Long Creek girls basketball head coach Amos Studtman said this was the fi rst two-game weekend for his team. Studtman said back-to-back games affected the team’s confi dence. See PC girls, Page A10 Grant Union boys split wins over the weekend Prospectors travel to Enterprise Friday By Steven Mitchell Blue Mountain Eagle After a tough loss on Friday, the Grant Union boys basketball team clobbered Weston-McEwen 61-30 Saturday in their sixth league game of the season. Out of the gate, the Prospectors scored 16 points in the fi rst quarter and held Weston-McEwen to 2 points. Grant Union poured on 14 more points by the end of the fi rst half. The halftime score was 30-12. Six-foot-three senior Tristan Morris was two for four at the free-throw line and fi nished with a game-high 20 points. “We played our game tonight,” said Morris. Head coach RC Huerta said his team shot and passed the ball well. Sophomore Austin McKrola and Junior Devon Stokes scored a combined 24 points and both were one for two at the free-throw line. PRAIRIE CITY BOYS EXTEND THEIR WIN STREAK TO 11 over Dayville/Monument. “We came out and played our style of basketball,” said Panthers junior Jojari Field. The style Field referred to was one that saw him and most of his team- mates scoring in double digits. Field, Cole Dieter, Lucas McKinley and Marcus Judd shot for a combined 53 points. Despite running into foul trouble early in the game, Panthers head coach Bo Workman said the team played at a higher level and moved and shot the ball well. For the Tigers, 3-9 overall this sea- son, it was a painful loss, according to head coach Jeff Shafer. “They’re a little shell-shocked,” said Shafer. “We need to keep working on team unity.” The Panthers go on the road Friday to face Burnt River (0-7) at 6 p.m. Ukiah/Long Creek tops Four Rivers By Steven Mitchell Blue Mountain Eagle T he Prairie City boys basketball team extended their winning streak to 11 games and won their fi rst league games this weekend, defeating Ukiah/Long Creek 78-42 Saturday and Dayville/Monument 63-34 on Friday. Prairie City boys dominate Ukiah/Long Creek Saturday The team put up their fi rst league win of the season in their 78-42 vic- tory over Ukiah/Long Creek. “I have a lot of respect for Prairie City,” said Ukiah/Long Creek head coach Amos Studtman. “They played some excellent defense, and they’re great opponents.” Studtman said playing the Panthers was a good experience for his team. The girls team kept the momentum going from their win big win Friday, and blew-out Weston-McEwen 42-16 Satur- day, upping their overall record to 5-10 and 3-3 in league play. “We played with a lot of intensity,” said senior Kaytlyn Wells. Grant Union girls take down Pilot Rock Friday Friday, the Prospectors picked up a road win, 41-29 at Pilot Rock. “They took lots of great shots and played great offense,” said Grant Union girls basketball head coach Kristi Moore. The Lady Prospectors go on the road to face Enterprise (11-2, 3-1) at 6 p.m. Friday. Grant Union took third in the Class 2A-1A championship bracket at the Ore- gon Classic Saturday. The Prospectors blew by Kennedy (72-9), Lakeview (60-12), Redmond (66-0) in the fi rst three rounds, and defeated Pine Eagle (42-33) in the quar- terfi nal. The squad fell to Culver (59-18) in the semifi nal but eked out a victory over Reedsport Charter (42-39) in the third-place match. Against Kennedy, Ezra Beam (113), Dylan Clark (120), Ben Henry (126), Riddick Hutchison (132), Isaac Koop- man (138), Jack Strong (145), Justin Hodge (160), Quinten Halgarth (170), Russell Hodge (182), Tucker Carpenter (195) and Drew Lusco (285) all won by pin. As for Lakeview, Isaac Koopman (138) and Russell Hodge (195) won by pin while Justin Hodge (152) and Damion Young (160) won by decision 8-5, 7-2, respectively. The Prospectors won seven matches by forfeit. In the Redmond matchup, Grant Union won by forfeit in three matches.
