NEWS MyEagleNews.com Wednesday, September 25, 2019 A5 Monument man to serve 90 days in jail for sex with minor By Sean Hart Blue Mountain Eagle A Monument man will serve 90 days in jail and three years of probation after admitting to having sex with a minor. Colton D. Blakeslee was 27 when he had sexual intercourse with a 14-year- old girl from Grant County on three occasions in March and April, according to a stipulated deferred adjudi- cation agreement approved by Senior Judge Ronald J. Pahl in Grant County Cir- cuit Court Sept. 19. In the agreement, Blakeslee certified under penalty of perjury the events happened, but he did not plead guilty to any crimes. If he successfully completes probation, all charges will be dismissed without con- viction. Blakeslee, Grant County District Attorney Jim Carpenter, the victim and the victim’s parents approved the agreement. The agreement calls for 36 months of probation supervised by Grant County Community Corrections, including 90 days of jail, which can be served in 30-day blocks on or before April 3 in 2020, 2021 and 2022, as well as 120 hours of community service. The agreement also requires Blakeslee to com- plete a sexual offender treat- ment program and to obtain an alcohol abuse assess- ment and complete all rec- ommended treatment. The agreement requires Blakeslee to pay a $100 deferred adjudication fee, a $1,000 fine and a $2,500 compensatory fine to the victim. Carpenter submit- ted information in Grant County Circuit Court May 16 charging Blakeslee with four counts of third-de- gree rape, three counts of contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor, three counts of sexual mis- conduct, two counts of third-degree sexual abuse, two counts of unlawful contact with a child and one count of third-degree sodomy. “Upon successful com- pletion of probation, the court shall discharge the defendant and dismiss the matter without an adju- dication of guilt and will not enter a conviction for purposes of disqualifica- tion or disability imposed by law upon conviction of a crime,” the agreement states. “Should the defen- dant be found by the court in violation of any term or condition of proba- tion, this agreement shall immediately terminate and this matter will proceed on the information filed herein.” Eagle file photo Grant County Emergency Communications Agency Dispatch Manager Valerie Maynard keeps track of numerous computer monitors at the former dispatch site in John Day. The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials-Interna- tional honored Maynard at its annual meeting in Bend Sept. 11 for demon- strating the highest level of commit- ment to “personnel, partner agen- cies and customers” and exemplifying “leadership, integrity, trustworthiness, dependability and forward thinking,” according to a press release. Dispatcher Cammie Haney nomi- nated Maynard for outstanding leader- ship and her role in successfully retain- ing Grant County’s 911 dispatch center during a budgeting crisis. “By partnering and closely work- ing with various agencies that the (for- mer) John Day Emergency Commu- nications Center served, Valerie with the help of many was able to retain our local dispatch center, save six jobs and ensure Grant County received the exceptional local service it deserved,” Haney said. “None of this would have been possible without the positive relationships Valerie has created with other agencies over the years, without the passion she has for her community or without the deep concern, respect and care she has for her dispatchers.” Maynard has been a dispatcher for 24 years, 19 of which have been serv- ing the citizens of Grant County. Oregon State Police Sept. 17: Responded to a crash at the intersection of Highway 26 and Hillcrest Drive in John Day, where a yacht became disconnected from the hitch of a vehicle. The safety chains and elec- trical brake failed to stop the yacht, which crossed both lanes of traffic, jumped the sidewalk, missed a pedes- trian and came to rest in the front yard of a homeowner. The highway was closed temporarily. Sept. 20: Responded to a report of the theft of $45 of gas at a gas station in John Day and located the vehi- cle on Highway 26 near milepost 136. Danielle J. Riley, 31, and Kyle Riley, 30, were issued a citation in lieu of custody after mak- ing arrangements to pay for the fuel. The driver was also cited for driving while sus- pended and no insurance. Sept. 20: After stopping a vehicle on Highway 26 near milepost 162 for hav- ing a headlight out and a rear door open, a strong odor of marijuana was noticed. The driver admitted to smoking 15 minutes before driving and showed signs of impair- ment. After field sobriety tests, Jonathan L. Fuston, 38, John Day, was arrested for driving under the influence of intoxicants — marijuana.
