Carl John Lino Jr. Edgar ‘Leroy’ Duncan Aug. 19, 1943 — Dec. 23, 2018 Carl John Lino Jr., 75, of John Day passed away Dec. 23 at Blue Mountain Hospital in John Day. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 23, at Grant Union Junior-Se- nior High School. Carl was born to Marian Knowles and Carl Lino Sr. on Aug. 19, 1943, in Elko, Nevada. He attended Elko High School and went on to attend Lewis and Clark College, graduating in 1965. Carl married Sondra June Laing on Aug. 21, 1965, in Portland and welcomed three children. He worked as the high school principal for North Marion High from 1965 through 1980. He then worked for the Grant County educational system as the principal of Grant Union High School from 1980 to 1995 when he retired. Carl enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the John Day Golf Club. He also enjoyed playing cards and traveling. His extensive travels took him to all 50 states and all seven continents. He was a committed member of the John Day Elks Lodge where he was the past Oregon State Elks President, National Elks Treasurer and inducted into the Elks State Hall of Fame in both Oregon and Idaho. He held numerous local, state and national offi cer positions with the Elks Lodge. Carl was also the mayor of Hubbard for two terms. Carl was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Sondra; and brother David Lino. He is survived by his daughters, Lisa (Tom) Berry of Boise, Idaho; Jody (Keith) Hammock of Bend; brother Jim (Cathy) Lino of Elko, Nevada; and three granddaughters, Rachel, Katelyn and Lauren. To leave a condolence for the family, visit driskillmemori- alchapel.com. Aug. 15, 1937 — Dec. 25, 2018 Edgar “Leroy” Duncan, 81, of Prairie City, Oregon, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 25, at his home. Leroy was born to Edgar and Nora (Ipok) Duncan in Alley Springs, Mis- souri, on Aug.15, 1937. He graduated from Redmond High School, in Red- mond, Oregon. On Aug. 29, 1958, Leroy married Sharon Beaver in Red- mond. They welcomed three children, two daughters and one son. Leroy worked at D.A.W. Lumber in Redmond for 37 years. He was a mem- ber of the National Wild Turkey Feder- ation and the N.R.A. Some of his hobbies included spending time outdoors, where he enjoyed hunting, fi shing, camping and riding his ATV. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Nora Duncan; sisters Virginia Cansler, Floy Case and Carol Francis Clark; son-in-law, Edward Petersen; and nephew Scott Case. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sharon Dun- can, of Prairie City; son Ken Duncan and daughter Kay Duncan, both of Redmond; daughter Kathy Aquilar of Forest Grove, Oregon; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Robert Watson Aug. 15, 1943 — Dec. 16, 2018 Robert Lane Watson, 75, of Baker City, Oregon, passed away at his residence in Settler’s Park Assisted Living Com- munity on Dec. 16. A memorial service will be held Satur- day, Jan. 5, at 11 a.m. in the United Methodist Church, 1919 Second St., Baker City. Private inurnment will be held in the Prairie City Cemetery at a later date. A reception will follow the service at the church. Robert was born on Aug. 15, 1943, in Prairie City, Ore- gon, to Robert and Loretta (Bradford) Watson. Robert worked as a ranch/farm hand for the Henry Ricco Ranch, a green chain/fi refi ghter for Ellingson Lumber, track laborer, maintenance of way for the Union Pacifi c Railroad, RV mechanic for Fred’s Travelrama, a tanker laborer for the Gunderson Brothers at the Portland shipyards and as a man- ufacturer for Joey Bed. He is survived by his sister Beverly McKinnis (Mau- rice) of Baker City; nephews Glenn McKinnis of Baker City and Ron McKinnis (Jennifer) of Hermiston, Oregon; nieces Cheryl Clow (Mike) of Portland, Oregon, and Teresa Mill- wood (Jamie) of Baker City; cousins Roxie Lissman (Hank) of John Day, Oregon, Loleta Grace (Dick) of Veneta, Ore- gon, Dan Hammond (Anna) Prineville, Oregon, Penny Estrada of Prairie City, Candy Makela of Phoenix, Arizona, and Patty Bradford of Baker City; great-niece Alex Murphy (Justin) and family of Hermiston, Oregon; great-nephew Ryan Mckinnis (Michelle) and family of Rosharon, Texas; special friends Bill Campbell and Jerry Don Campbell; and godson David Lyles (Kelly) of Baker City, Oregon. Michael ‘Mike’ Gordon Steele Dec. 1, 2018 Michael “Mike” Gordon Steele, 77, of McCall, Idaho, passed away Saturday, Dec. 1, at a hospital in Boise, Idaho. Arrangements have been entrusted to All Valley Cremation in Nampa, Idaho. Mike was born in Cornucopia, a small mining community in the moun- tains above Halfway, Oregon. His fam- ily moved to Prairie City, Oregon, when he was barely 4 years old and where he attended school from fi rst through 11th grades. He graduated from Grant Union High School where he attended his senior year. Mike excelled at athletics. He lettered in fi ve varsity sports while he was a freshman, an unheard of feat. He married Roma Nadine Smith (Steele) on Aug. 14, 1959. They spent 58 years together until Roma passed away in August of 2017. Mike had a varied life that went from a rough and tumble tim- ber faller, to a pastor, to a successful manager of motels where he attained notoriety in the Montana Chamber of Commerce. He was known by his friends as “Bullneck Moose Face.” He is survived by three daughters, Michele Steele, Melinda Steele Owen and Melissa (Kevin) Van Riper; seven grandchil- dren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and his younger brother, Terry R. Steele of Ritter, Oregon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ebb Arthur Steele and Edith Willetta (Brown) Steele; and his older brother, Ebb Arthur Steele Jr. (“Sonny”). John Francis Fiedor Jr. John Francis Fiedor Jr., 66, passed away Dec. 24 at his residence in Dayville, Oregon. Memorial services were held on Sunday, Jan. 6, at the Dayville Community Church in Dayville. John was the fi rst born to Helen Banco and John Fie- dor Sr. on Feb. 20, 1952, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He attended high school at Bowie High in Maryland and grad- uated in 1970; he continued his education at the University of Maryland graduating in 1974. John was a master of his- toric interpretation and worked for the National Park Ser- vice as a ranger at Harpers Ferry, Gettysburg, Great Falls, George Washington Monument in Washington, D.C., and the Glenn Echo Park in Maryland before his relocation to Oregon, where he worked for the John Day Fossil Beds. His working career lasted from 1976 until 2012, when he retired. He was a modern day renaissance man and a true gentleman. John enjoyed being active in local government, stargaz- ing, coaching football, fossil tours through the John Day Fossil Beds and was an artist and a painter. He acted and directed at the Shepherdstown Theater in West Virginia, was a member of the Civil Air Patrol in Mary- land and a member of the 1974 Maryland football team. He was preceded in death by his father, John Fiedor Sr. He is survived by his mother, Helen Fiedor of Uniontown, Pennsylvania; brothers Craig (Kathy) Fiedor of Uniontown and Mark (Val) Fiedor of Boston, Massachusetts; sister Karen (Wayne) Taylor of Brooklyn, Maryland.
