The Prairie City girls, led by Bo Workman, fell to Joseph on Friday, 43-28, and lost to Enter- prise on Saturday, 47-26. The coach was not available for comment. Dayville/ Monument boys fall in tournament games The 1A Dayville/Monument Tiger boys had a challenge for their first games of the season, losing to both the 1A Arling- ton Honkers, 58-33, and the 1A Condon/Wheeler Knights, 71- 39. Although they didn’t come up with wins, Tigers head coach Jeff Schafer said he was pleased with how they performed. “Our goal is to keep com- municating, work on aggressive defense, and gain endurance,” the coach said. “My players de- Wednesday, December 5, 2018 sire to do well and learn, and that is definitely what a coach wants.” Long Creek/Ukiah boys beat Burnt River The Long Creek/Ukiah boys basketball team claimed a 47-23 road victory Friday over Burnt River in Unity. Coach Amos Studtmann, who co-coaches with TC Con- ner, said the team worked well together and had fair shooting with good defense. “We got a chance to rotate in all of our players, with our best players spending most of the time on the bench,” Studtmann said. “It allowed me and TC to evaluate where our younger players will fit in a more diffi- cult game.” Long Creek/Ukiah was scheduled to play Mitchell/ Spray on Tuesday, past press time. They meet up again Tues- day, Dec. 11, at 5 p.m. in Long Creek. “Last year, Mitchell/Spray was very aggressive with a high tempo so both games should be fast possibly high-scoring games,” he said. A13 Long Creek/Ukiah girls rout the Bulls The Long Creek/Ukiah girls basketball team prevailed 35-8 over Burnt River on Friday. Coach Amos Studtmann said he and coach TC Conner spoke with the girls before the game about focusing on defensive stops. “We could see, when they got three defensive stops in a row, how the whole momentum of the game shifted to our favor, and when we let our defense slide, our offense became more difficult.” He said every player had time on the court, including five exchange students who have never played basketball before. Long Creek/Ukiah faces Mitchell/Spray three consecu- tive times in the next week and a half. Their first was scheduled on Tuesday past press time. Then the teams meet up Tues- day, Dec. 11, at 5 p.m. in Long Creek. Studtmann said they will work on reducing simple turn- overs in the games against the Eagle/Loggers. week 13 of 13 • IT’S EASY • IT’S FREE ® Broasted Chicken, Pizza & Burgers Open 7 days a week 11am - 9pm Congratulations Ken Gillihan you are this weeks MVP!
