Invested in the purchase of a new glass crusher, improving safety, for the Prairie City Recycling Center. 4. Provided $10,000 toward the construction of Prairie City Park Restrooms through a successful grant application. 5. Financially sponsored the following, just to name a few: A. Talents & Treasures to develop their 501(c)3 non-profit status. B. Sponsored a Prairie City High School student to serve as State President of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) organization. C. Sponsored six Prairie City High School students to attend the national Family Career Community Leaders of America convention, where all six members attending achieved gold medals in the judged competition (no other school attained this distinction). D. Supported and provided volunteers to the Oregon Solutions landscaping and painting of the Prairie City School. E. Sponsored a Prairie City High School student to attend the Youth Leadership Forum in Washington, D.C. F. Beautiful art murals at either end of the town along with the benches in the downtown area welcoming visitors to Prairie City. OVERLOOK: Five miles east of Prairie City a Conestoga Wagon sits atop a lookout area north of Highway 26. Visitors stop here to take in the panoramic views of the John Day Valley and the breathtaking and beautiful Strawberry Mountains and adjacent Strawberry Mountain Wilderness area. The GPCCA maintains this visitor site with information boards about the area with maps and advertising from area businesses. We invite you to visit these businesses while you are visiting our area. Please help us keep the viewpoint clean and remember, we have an Official State of Oregon Rest Area Across from City Hall on Bridge Street, in downtown Prairie City. EIN # 93-1252624 OUR VISION: In 2014, the Greater Prairie City Community Association (GPCCA) successfully negotiated a historic donation of this church property from the Oregon-Idaho Conference United Methodist Church. The former church currently hosts family events, entertainment, classes, and workshops. Now it’s time to renew the facility for our new community center – an anchor for our social, cultural, entertainment, and educational activities. WHO WE ARE: The GPCCA is a group of local business owners and community members who work to enhance the livability and economic well-being for the 910 residents of Prairie City. We sponsor events and activities that enhance the livability, visual presentation, economic well-being, participation of volunteers, and development of community leaders in Prairie City. OUR PROJECT: GPCCA plans to raise the necessary funding within the next three to five years to remodel and upgrade the existing church building to be more energy efficient. The addition of a certified kitchen and bathroom to include a shower will allow us to become an accredited “Emergency Evacuation Center” if ever needed. These upgrades will add to our ability to provide the versatility needed for the various current and future programs. ACTIVITIES AVAILABLE: We now have the projector and sixteen foot movie screen that can provide: Movies, PowerPoint Classes and Presentations. Concerts, Holiday events, Schools Grad night, Weddings, Memorial services, and many more. HISTORY GPCCA members are grateful for the eighteen month Leadership Training through Rural Development Initiatives and the Northwest Area Foundation that gave us the strength to go forward with our dream. The past years GPCCA has donated over $100,000.00 to various projects, to name a few: 1. Annual sponsor of the 4th of July celebration for Grant County in Prairie City. 2. Organized, sponsored, and carried out several scrap metal drives for the beautification for Prairie City and surrounding areas.
