Scholarship and financial aid night
• 6 p.m. Wednesday, Grant County Extension back office

A meeting will be held for juniors, seniors and parents to dis-
cuss financial aid and scholarship information. Topics will in-
clude preparing for scholarships and financial aid, organization,
efficiency, transfer options and a question-and-answer segment.

Benefit dinner to support GIST cancer research
• 4:30 p.m., John Day Golf Club
The golf club is hosting a benefit dinner for gastrointestinal
stromal tumor cancer research. There will be two dinner times
at 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. The cost is $15, $25 for a couple and
$7 under the age of 7. Dinner will include pork roast, mashed
potatoes, vegetables, salad, bread and dessert.

Internet sensation Christopher Duffley sings an original
number called ‘Keep On’ during last year’s Christmas
party for Community Counseling Solutions in Heppner.
Duffley, a blind musician with autism, will perform a
benefit concert Nov. 4 in John Day.
The Mad Hatters club will meet for lunch. Members are en-
couraged to attend.
Canyon City haunted house
• 6 p.m., Canyon City Community Hall
Admission to the haunted house is free, and Canyon City
Volunteer Fire Department will be giving out candy. There will

Silent Wave Horse Rescue open house
First Friday

Meet the horses and tour the facility along the John Day Riv-
er. The event features Caribbean dinner and drinks, auctions,
games for kids, an equine welfare and training tips seminar and

Downtown business will host a food drive this month. Bring
a non-perishable item and receive a raffle ticket. There will be
opportunities to earn raffle tickets throughout the night. Enter

The John Day Fossil Beds National Monument center will
host activities and events throughout the day, including hands-
on lessons, a film, a practice fossil lab from 1-3:30 p.m. and
45-minute exhibit tours at 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Participate in
the National Fossil Day Art Contest at nps.gov/subjects/fossil-

The PTC of Prairie City High School will hold a Halloween
carnival. Corn dogs, chips and water will be offered for $5, cot-
ton candy for $1 and tickets for games are five for $1.
National Fossil Day

the dessert and silent auction will follow with doors closing at
