Blue Mountain Eagle Wednesday, October 3, 2018 A9 OCTOBER 2018 October 7-13, 2018 A youth program based on an active, learn-by-doing approach. It is one of the largest educational youth programs in the United States. There are more than 6 million 4-H members nationwide, and thousands of young people participate in Oregon 4-H each year. Through 4-H young people, learn and grow in partnership with caring adults to develop the skills and confidence needed to become contributing, productive, self-directed members of society. Young people can see how their actions make a difference in the lives of others and the world around them. Core Values: 4-H is based on the current theory, research and practice of positive youth development. 7-13 4-H membership is open to all youth Kindergarten through 12th grade. In addition to paid faculty and staff who provide leadership to 4-H, thousands of adults and teen volunteers offer their time and expertise to 4-H. There are many different volunteer roles available. Stop by the extension office if you are interested. 2017-2018 year had: 215 youth members, 33 leaders, and numerous volunteers Clubs, 4-H Camps, School Enrichment programs, Special Interest and Short Term Programs, Cloverbuds, Project Based The emblem has a special status and is federally protected. The H’s stand for - Head, Heart, Hands, and Health Pledge - “I Pledge my Head to clearer thinking, my Heart to greater loyalty, my Hands to larger service, and my Health to better living, for my club, my community, my country, and my world.” Green and White – green represents growth, life and youth, while white symbolizes purity and high ideals “To make the best better.” Provides the services that allow 4-H activities to occur and the connection with Oregon State University. Tuesday – Head Follow/Like our Facebook Page and Participate in Trivia questions and facts Wednesday – Heart Share your thoughts on what 4-H means to you on our Facebook page Thursday – Health Join us for a Health Walk at lunch – check our Facebook page for locations Friday – Hands Drop off a donation or gift that will contribute to the local Tree of Giving, which is a community service project for 4-H. This can be a monetary donation as small as $5, a toy, teen gift or even a book. Drop boxes will be located in our local extension office for family drop off and your local school for students who have a donation. We would like to thank all of our volunteers, supporters, donors, tax payers and families who help make 4-H possible. Your time and contributions to the program make a huge difference in the lives of the youth we serve. We encourage 4-H members to enroll/re-enroll in October, this helps meet the member guidelines and to fully participate in the 4-H year. The enrollment fee for the 2018-2019 year is $25 if paid by January 1st. These fees are set by State 4-H and we pass them on. We currently do not increase the fee for local revenue. At this time we are seeking donations to help with this year’s enrollment fees and scholarship for those who need assistance to be able to join.
