A6 Blue Mountain Eagle Community Wednesday, September 5, 2018 Community HEALTH BEAT WHAT’S HAPPENING Quality Healthcare Close To Home 170 Ford Road, John Day • 541-575-1311 • www.bluemountainhospital.org Superior Standards in Radiology Services at Blue Mountain Hospital Radiologic imaging is now a key diagnostic tool for many diseases. It has an important role in monitoring treatment and predicting outcomes. Here at Blue Mountain Hospital District, we have many services available to help assist the providers in diagnosing a problem. Having to travel out of the area for these exams can be a burden on patients. The inconvenience and cost of the visit, gas, motel and the potential for loss of wages can be very stressful. We are aware that some patients face greater difficulties and we want to make it easier for them as well as for their caregivers. At Blue Mountain Hospital our Radiology Department tries to alleviate all of the extra stress and cost by providing radiologic services to our physicians and patients close to home. We provide scheduled timeslots Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm for Ultrasound, Mammography, Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), and Bone Density/DEXA scans as well as walk-in for general X-ray. Computed Tomography (CT) and general X-ray are available to the Emergency Department around-the-clock every day of the week. The deadline for What’s Happening items is 5 p.m. Friday. Call the Eagle, 541- 575-0710, or email editor@ bmeagle.com. For meetings this week, see our list in the classifieds. SATURDAY, SEPT. 8 Annual fly-in and breakfast Our staff works closely with Central Oregon Radiology Associates (CORA) in Bend in order to provide high quality services to our patients and referring physicians in our community. We use the same Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) as CORA. They have upgraded the PACS with voice recognition software, allowing all radiology reports to be immediately dictated, proofread, and made available to ordering providers. This has dramatically enhanced our department’s ability to render timely radiologic services. A great advantage of using the same PACS as most of the Bend area is that it provides continuity of care for patients. When it is necessary for a patient to go to Bend for a healthcare issue, most of their providers are able to view the imaging and reports for tests that were done in John Day. The importance of radiologic services becomes even clearer when one considers the critical role it plays in so many different fields of medicine. Radiology touches nearly every patient and disease category at Blue Mountain Hospital. The specialty is a leading driver of hospital success on critical metrics like patient safety, referral patterns, emergency department throughput, length of stay, and the overall patient experience. We offer centralized scheduling, making it easy (for you and your physician’s office) to schedule all tests at the hospital with a single phone call. The Blue Mountain Hospital District Radiology Department staff has an unwavering commitment to quality, safety, and service. Our goal is to provide the highest level of diagnostic care for our patients. For further information, please call 541-575-4154.
