News Blue Mountain Eagle Phase C public use restrictions implemented on southern forest Blue Mountain Eagle Because of continued hot temperatures, lack of moisture and extreme fire danger, the Malheur Na- tional Forest’s Emigrant Creek Ranger District of- ficials have implemented Phase C of public use re- strictions. Campfires are prohibit- ed; only liquid and bottle (propane) gas stoves are allowed. No internal com- bustion engine operation, including chainsaws, is allowed, except for motor- ized vehicles. Electrical generators must be operated in the center of an area at least 10 feet in diameter that is bar- ren or cleared of all flam- mable material or fully contained within a pickup truck bed that is empty of all flammable material. A5 Wednesday, August 8, 2018 A IR AMBULANCE RESPONDS FOR CRASH No off-road/off-trail vehicle travel or travel on roads not cleared of stand- ing grass or other flam- mable material is allowed. Smoking is allowed only in enclosed vehicles and buildings, developed rec- reation sites or in cleared areas. To report a wildfire, call 911. For more information, visit fs.usda.gov/malheur. Prairie City declares water emergency Only ‘essential use’ allowed Blue Mountain Eagle Prairie City Mayor Jim Hamsher has declared a water supply emergency with man- datory restrictions on water use. Prairie City Municipal Code authorizes the city to limit water usage to “essential use” — consumption, sanita- tion and fire emergencies — only, according to an Aug. 6 statement from Hamsher. “All use of water for other purposes is prohibited at all times during this emergency,” Hamsher said. “That includes but is not limited to: all irriga- tion; washing vehicles, side- walks or other hard surface areas and structures; filling or refilling pools, ponds or stor- age tanks.” Continued use of city wa- ter for non-essential purposes will result in citations, he said.
