Fourth of July Blue Mountain Eagle Wednesday, June 27, 2018 A9 Small towns make big plans for Fourth of July Monument, Wednesday, July 4 Blue Mountain Eagle Four of Grant County’s small towns are gearing up for grand Fourth of July cel- ebrations. The fun includes parades, games, a car show, food and fireworks — the only trouble will be choosing which fes- tivities to attend. Dayville will be decked out with patriotically dec- orated pallets, and visitors can view a car show before the “Stars & Stripes for Day- ville!” parade. Prairie City’s parade starts with a great bang from a cannon, and this year’s theme is “The Biggest Small Town 4th of July Celebra- tion.” The DeWitt Museum will have free admission again this year, and Prairie City’s fireworks are at the Oxbow Ranch at dusk. Prairie City parade orga- nizer Anna Smith said the idea behind the theme is “go big or go home — the bigger the better.” She said she’s taken the Fourth of July celebration under her wing to promote her hometown, bridge the gap between Prairie City and nearby communities and en- courage people to visit the town and businesses. “I just want to see the gap close up and get everybody happy about the area,” she said. Monument’s parade is followed by old-fashioned games for all ages, such as cornhole, in the park and at 10 p.m. the “best fireworks in Grant County,” according to organizers. Long Creek’s historical society holds a barbecue luncheon at noon for their annual Founders Day cele- bration, highlighting settlers of the town.
