’62 Days celebration
• Canyon City
The annual event, hosted by the Whiskey Gulch Gang,
commemorates the discovery of gold in Canyon City on June
8, 1862. The parade, led by grand marshal Carl Lino, will
take place at 11 a.m. on June 9, with a barbecue to follow.
The parade will include dance performances by the Portland
Lee’s Association Dragon & Lion Dance Team. A variety
of vendors will be present, and activities include the Gold
Rush Run/Walk, an ice cream social, bed races, kids games
and contests and a hanging reenactment. F.C. Sels Brewery
will feature live music by Copper Ridge. For vendor in-

Quilt show

The Grant County Piecemakers Quilting Guild presents
the 18th annual quilt show, featuring “Quilts of Valor,” patri-
otic quilts made for veterans. Several vendors for shopping
will be available. There will be food, door prizes, special
awards and a raffle for a quilt drawing. The cost of admission
is $5 for both days. A $20 workshop on quilting a woven
star takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. For more in-

Hazardous waste collection

Household hazardous waste items will be collected for
no charge, with the exception of radioactive waste, explo-
sives, sharps and ammunition, which will not be accepted.

Strawberry Lake photography hike

Local photographer Ashley Stevick will lead the hike and
offer photography tips. Hikers will meet at the Blue Moun-
tain Land Trust office for a carpool to the start of the hike.
Space is limited, and pre-registration is required. The cost is

A potluck will be held at the schoolhouse across the high-
way from the church at noon, and those attending are asked
to bring a dish. Music by the Grant County Jammers will
be at the church starting at 1 p.m. The meal is hosted by the
Long Creek Historical Society, and proceeds benefit resto-

clude arts, crafts and activity booths, some at a minimal
cost; dental screenings; a kids bike helmet exchange; $1
hamburgers and hot dogs; and free snow cones. Other ac-

and a ninja warrior race, for $5 a person. Purchase pre-
sale wristbands at Families First Parent Resource Center,

Registration for the youth rodeo begins at 8 a.m. Con-
testants are encouraged to dress in red, white and blue for
the theme, “Patriot Days.” Membership for participants is a
one-time fee of $30, and entry fees are $10 per day or $2 per
