A8 Community Blue Mountain Eagle Wednesday, February 7, 2018 Hunter education course starts this month Blue Mountain Eagle A hunter education class starts Feb. 26 at the Grant Union Ju- nior-Senior High School library in John Day. Classes are scheduled for Monday, Wednesday and Thurs- day evenings over a two-week period. Each class lasts two to two-and-a-half hours. A field day live shoot is planned for 9 a.m. Saturday, March 10, at the law enforce- ment shooting range on Halls Hill west of Prairie City. No one under the age of 18 may hunt wildlife (except on their own land) without success- fully completing this course. All ages planning to hunt as non- residents in other states may be required to have a Hunter Educa- tion Card. ODFW has established a $10 class fee per student. This fee may be waived in some circum- stances. Pre-enrollment is avail- able at Ace Hardware, True Val- ue Hardware, the local ODFW office or other ODFW license sales outlets. Canyon Blvd., John Day The Local Advisory Committee for the Upper Mainstem and South Fork John Day River Ag Water Quality Management Area will hold an interim meeting to discuss compiling and tracking restoration activities and best management practices that maintain and protect water quality in the management area. FRIDAY, FEB. 9 Poverty competency seminar Daddy-daughter dance • 6-8:30 p.m., John Day Elks Lodge The John Day-Canyon City Parks and Recreation District is sponsoring a “Night to Disco” daddy-daughter dance. The dance is for girls 5 years old and up and their fathers or father figures, with goodie bags and a photo included. New this year is the option of dinner prior to the dance from 5-6 p.m., consisting of hamburgers and fries and nacho, salad and sundae bars. For dinner and the dance, the cost is $45 per couple with $5 for each additional daughter. Without dinner, the cost is $25 per Second Saturday gathering • 9:30 a.m., Outpost Restaurant, John Day Ladies of Grant County are invited to the gathering. The theme will be “No greater love” with a short video. Kathy Rog- ers will present music at the no-host breakfast. Coffee and tea are complimentary. Farmers market meeting • 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Grant County Regional Airport Topics covered during the seminar will include the impact of poverty, mentoring and fostering success, lived experiences and styles of communication and a poverty simulation activity. Door prizes will be given, and coffee, snacks and a working lunch will be provided. There is no cost to attend, but the par- ticipant number is limited to the first 50 who register.
