A10 Sports Blue Mountain Eagle Wednesday, October 18, 2017 S PORTS R OUNDUP Grant Union Cross Country boys fi nish second at Idlewild The Grant Union cross country boys team had their best fi nish of the sea- son, undeterred by cold temperatures and snow. Placing in the top 10 out of 25 were junior Bo Olson, fi nishing the 5,000 meter race with a mark of 22:12, and sophomore Gage Brandon with 22:17. “We ran well as a team and grouped our runners together tight,” said Grant Union head coach Sonna Smith. She said the team ran without top runner Tanner Elliott, who is recovering from a procedure on his toe. Smith said Elliott should recover in time for Friday’s district champion- ships. On the girls side, senior Savannah Wyllie had her best fi nish of the season, placing second with a time of 24:02. “She is peaking at the right time to be primed for district,” Smith said. The 3A/2A/1A-SD5 Special District 5 XC Championship is set for Friday, Oct. 27, at Pendle- ton Community Park. The girls varsity race begins at 3:45 p.m., and the boys start at 4:30 p.m. “The next two weeks we will be focusing on tapering so we peak right on time for district competition,” Smith said. Smith added the middle school team will compete at their district meet on Fri- day. She said Brady Dole and Austin Cates both raced well in Burns. Dole had a personal re- cord, running the 3,000 me- ter in 14:05 for ninth place, and Cates ran it in 14:06 for 10th. For the girls, Amelia Hall had a personal record of 15:43, fi nishing seventh. Prairie City has snowy loss to Crane gridders The Prairie City Panther gridders, a young varsity team, took a 64-0 fall in Fri- day’s contest with the Crane Mustangs. It was an uphill battle for the Panthers, competing against a team with six se- niors. Snowfall made for a cold and slippery game. “Crane is the best team that we played all year, but it was the best game that we have played all year,” said Prairie City head coach Nate Barber. “The positive thing about playing good teams is that the kids can see how they need to be executing.” The Panthers are on the road Friday to face Adri- an/Jordan Valley at 4 p.m. (MDT). Monument/Dayville Lady Tigers lose battle to Jordan Valley The Monument/Day- ville Tigers had to adjust their lineup after losing a starter last week. Jordan Valley pulled out the win Friday when the Ti- gers traveled, 25-18, 9-25, 25-23 and 25-20. “The girls played well,” said head coach Kristi Em- erson. She said the team be- came a little confused on coverage when double blocking. “That really got us for a couple of volleys,” she said. “It caught us off guard.” One back row player is now playing front row SPORTS SCHEDULE after Tiger senior starter Danielle Rhoda received a thumb injury; she is out for the season. Monument/Dayville took another loss to Crane Monday, the Mustangs winning the close match with scores of 18-25, 25- 16, 25-19 and 25-21.
