The Grant Union boys team placed fifth out of seven teams. The second mile of the var- sity course was an uphill climb. “Even though the majori- ty of the athletes did not PR, they raced at a high level and placed well among our district contenders at the meet,” said Grant Union head coach Sonna Smith. Max Bailey, on the middle school team, moved up one place in the standings. Smith said the wind was chilly, but once the athletes be- gan racing they warmed up. “This Saturday at Idlewild, we could see snow,” she said, adding, “We hope to have ev- eryone healthy and peaked by district.” The race at Idlewild Camp- ground hosted by Burns will begin at 10:45 a.m. for varsity boys, followed by the girls at 11 a.m. Grant Union results: Boys Gage Brandon, 21:10.9 Elisha Sheedy, 21:34.3 Cole Deiter, 22:21.8 Braden Spencer, 22:28.2 Donavan Smith, 23:59.1 Jesse Randleas, 24:27.0 Jacob Smith, 25:08.2 Curtis Perry, 29:00.8 PR Girls Savannah Wyllie, 24:00.1 Ellie Justice, 30:58.5 Sierra Cates, 32:29.4 SR Contributed photo Prospector football team overwhelms Bulldogs in Culver The Grant Union Prospec- tors claimed a 52-7 win Friday at the Culver Bulldogs’ field. Although turnovers plagued Grant Union in the second quarter of the nonleague game, they led 22-0 at halftime. “Offensively, we played OK in the first half,” said Grant Union head coach Jason Mill- er. “The second half was much better offensively.” He added, “Defense played stout the entire game.” Prospector tight end and Grant Union cross country runners settle in at Saturday’s Tigers Invitational, including, from left, Ellie Justice, Amelia Hall, Sierra Cates and Nate Hodge. Grant Union volleyball team garners two 3-0 sweeps in one day The Grant Union Prospec- tor volleyball team was on a roll Saturday, sweeping En- terprise and Elgin. Their first stop was in En- terprise, where they beat the Outlaws 25-7, 25-15 and 25- 16. Facing Elgin at the Hus- kies’ court later that day, Grant Union won with scores of 25-8, 25-15, 25-9. This was Prospector Syd- ney Brockway’s first day back, playing all-around — she had been playing back row due to an injury. “She definitely made an impact,” said Grant Union head coach Shae Speth. “Mariah Moulton had a great day with very few er- rors offensively and defen- sively,” Speth added. “We did well with controlling the ball and running our offense effectively.” In Elgin, Reagan Shel- ley was out with an injury during warm-ups. “Taylor Allen stepped in and did a tremendous job,” Speth said. The two wins puts the Prospectors on a 13-game win streak. Grant Union has a 20-1 overall record, and they are 6-0 in the Wapiti League. “Heading into the second half of league, we have defi- nitely been focusing more on fine-tuning our game and minimizing our errors,” Speth said. She said she expects this week’s matches to be tough.
