Page March 10, 1925 - July 29, 2017 James “Jim” Michael Redman, 72, died on Wednesday, Aug. 2, at a cabin on McGregor Lake surrounded by family. Redman was born on Dec. 26, 1944, in Enterprise to Jim and Marge Redman. He graduated from Grant Union High School in John Day. He started working for Pacifi c Power in 1965 as a meter reader, then apprentice lineman, journeyman lineman and into management in 1980 in Libby, Montana. He married Kathleen “Kippy” in Libby, Montana, Sept. 9, 1989. He retired from Flat- head Electric Co-Op in 2001, and the couple began trav- eling the world and fi lling their days with friends and family. Redman is survived by his wife Kathleen “Kippy”; sister Lynn Wagner; son Jimmy Redman; son David Redman; son Sean Rumelhart; daughter Shannon Mckeon; son Ryan Ru- melhart; daughter Erin Rumelhart; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Gerald Dewayne Roe, 81, of John Day passed away on Saturday, July 29, at Rosemary Manor under the care of hospice in John Day. On Dec. 19, 1935, Roe was born to Clarence and Mildred Roe in La Grande. He graduated from Wasco High School. He had two children of his own and three adopted children before his mar- riage to Carol Roe in 1982, who had fi ve children of her own. He was a logger before running his own fi shing boat. He then owned a service station before retiring as a restaurant owner. He also was an amusement machines business owner, renting and servicing pool tables, juke boxes, games and vending machines around Eastern Oregon. Roe was a hunter, fi sherman and avid out- doorsman who enjoyed reading, collecting stamps, gardening and picking mushrooms and huckleberries. He is preceded in death by his two brothers Don Roe and Ray Roe; sister Phyllis Roe; adopted son Eddy Roe; and stepdaughter Donna Kemble. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Carol Roe; brother Joe Roe; two children Julie Walston and Gerry Roe; adopted daughters Tawny Smith and Dixie Birdsong; four stepchildren Patty Kautz, Linda Roether, Bill Geinger and Julie Gibbs; nieces and nephews; nine grandchildren; and fi ve great-grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held this fall in northeast Oregon. Details will be announced prior. Hedevig “Hedy” J. Page, 92, of John Day passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, July 29. A memorial service was held Aug. 7 at Driskill Memorial Chapel. Page was born March 10, 1925, to John and Anina Christensen in Bethel, South Dakota, where she grew up on a farm during the Great Depression. She married Dell Page on July 28, 1946, and they owned and operated a very successful well-drilling business in Veneta until their retirement to John Day in 1996. She enjoyed her family, a wide circle of longtime friends and working with Dell on the never-ending landscaping and home improvement projects. She was an excellent cook; her Danish upbringing ensured you would never leave her house feeling hungry. She was quick-witted, kind-hearted and al- ways had a sweet smile. In her later years, she worked end- lessly on jigsaw puzzles. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Dell, in 2010; and her brother Carsten Christensen. She is survived by daugher Carol of John Day; son Wayne of Veneta; granddaughter Katrina; and one great-grand- daughter. Rod and Etta Lu Hen- dricksen and Colby Brad- ford and Mikeala Donol- ue won a ceramic frog. The frogs were made by Donna Adams and were awarded for having a beautiful yard. The Green Thumb Garden Club was orga- nized in 1964 and rec- ognizes Prairie City res- idents for helping keep the community looking proper. Last year’s winners of the award were Ed and Deeann Negus for their spring lawn and Mary Winegar for her summer lawn.
