A6 Seniors Blue Mountain Eagle Wednesday, April 5, 2017 G RANT C OUNTY S ENIORS John Day Seniors Nicky Essex On Monday, March 27, Jeannette Julsrud and Nicky Essex greeted us at the front desk. The servers were from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Darlene Nodine and Ann Huffman delivered 28 meals to John Day and Canyon City. Billy Howland and Step Forward delivered five meals to Mt. Vernon. Darlene Nodine won the free meal, and Merry Hen- ry won the Len’s Drug gift certificate. We had 24 diners here at the center. Veanne didn’t have any announce- ments. Shay prepared corned beef in pastry, cottage cheese with tomatoes and scrambled eggs. Lisa made a very tasty blueberry oatmeal bake. On Wednesday, March 29, 20 frozen meals were de- livered. On Thursday, March 30, Jeannette Julsrud and Nicky Essex greeted us at the front desk. Our servers were from the Blue Mountain Hos- pital Auxiliary. Virginia Mill- er and Karen Bailey served us. There were a total of 28 delivered meals to John Day and Canyon City, including one delivered in Mt Vernon by Billy Howland and Step Forward. Dale Stennett said our prayer, and Virginia Mill- er led us in saying our flag salute. Veanne told us that Linda Stoltz no longer has time to take care of the brochures, magazines or bulletin board. If you would be interested in taking over any or all of these duties, please see Linda or Veanne. This was our April Fools meal. Shay made spaghetti with meat sauce. The noo- dles were a fun surprise and success! We also had corn and rolls, as well as Lisa’s cupcakes in ice cream cones. In addition to our usual Val- ley View and Thriftway door prizes won by Drew Harmer and Ron Dowse, there were about 20 brown paper bags drawn for and given out. You should have seen all the cra- zy things that came out of the bags. I especially liked the Groucho glasses. We had several guests; Otis Rictar and his wife brought several family members and stayed for bingo. Thursday, April 6, we will be having Parmesan crusted chicken. This will be our April birthday Thursday. Come and enjoy some cake provided by Driskill Memo- rial Chapel. Then Monday April 10, we’ll have tamale pie. Don’t forget bingo after lunch on Thursday. The most valuable and respected source of local news, advertising and information for our communities. www.eomediagroup.com Monument Seniors Soo Yukawa We had some yummy hot roast beef sandwiches, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, dinner rolls and birthday cake for our last meal of March prepared by our great cooks Terry Cade and Carrie Jewell. We also had quite the crowd, 59 guests on the books and eight takeouts. Our greeters were Bob Blakeslee, Bodean Andersen and Marva Walker. Bob led us in the flag salute. Bodean made the announcements and prayed the blessing over our meal. Marva was in charge of the money exchanges. Gary Doland won the Len’s Drug gift card , Donna Campbell won the Chester’s Thriftway gift card and Judy Bustardo won a free meal. We give thanks to our generous supporters. We had some of the Grant County Advisory Council join us for lunch. We had Harold and Frances Preston from Prairie City and Veanne Wed- dle and Ron Dowse from John Day. Joe Phippen and Bruce Kaufman from Prairie City were also present. Pat and Scott Reed joined us too for lunch from Spray. There was one announce- ment that might pique your interest. On April 22-23, there will be free fishing available to all residents of Oregon, no license required. These free days of fishing include fish- ing, clamming and crabbing. Hope you take advantage of this great opportunity. We’ve had a few gorgeous days of sunshine this past week. As I was driving down our mountain, I was able to get a panoramic view of Monument. We’ve had quite a bit of rain, and it just made everything here a lush green. I just love looking over this little valley. Sometimes I just want to pinch myself because of the beauty, and I just can’t believe I get to live here. I feel that I have a taste of heaven here in Monument. Once, when my hubby and I were driving home down the I-5 corridor in Oregon, we saw a very green, peace- ful-looking valley. I thought it was just absolutely beautiful and wished that I could live in a place like that. Well, God is the ultimate giver of good gifts, and he knows the desires of your heart because he put them there. Four years ago, he brought us here, and I can’t imagine our lives to be other than this life here. We are so thankful and blessed. We’ve been on an amazing adventure. God is good, all the time. Having great neighbors who look out for you and your animals has been the other factor that we love about liv- ing out here. My goats had escaped, again (groan, rolling of eyes) and had a message from neighbor informing us; thanks, Joni! Of course, we weren’t home when they had their little escapade. Darn those goats, they are such pills. I might be saying good- bye and good riddance to three males soon. I’ll let y’all know their fate, keeping my fingers crossed. Oh, and pray for me. Ha. Psalm 57: 11 “ Be thou ex- alted, O God, above the heav- ens: Let thy glory be above all the earth. ” Prairie City Seniors Rose Coombs I know spring is here be- cause Derrol got out the lit- tle electric lawn mower and mowed our lawn! And he wasn’t the only one. So here we go, people. The winter is past, and the sun is shining so the grass can grow so we can cut if off. Noticed the cows are eagerly chasing the new shoots. The cure for my hearing problem was almost worse than the disease. And it hasn’t completely cleared the crud from the tubes. Phooey. I know that I will never take any Prednisone again, though. The bad side ef- fects finally showed up, and they are taking a long time to go away. Double phooey. Hope you had a nice spring break. There were people going to see grand- kids, and grandkids coming to Prairie City. The Howards hosted their granddaughters for the week. Since Harold and Bruce were gone, I got to do the announcing — again. Ken, Marjean, Larry and Carlos did the deliveries. Ken led the flag salute, and Jack asked the blessing. We had 58 names on the book. Among those were Helen Bogart and Jim and Susan Kirk- wood. Good to see them all. The birthday gift certifi- cate donated by Huffman’s Market went to Glenda Brooks. Then the number for the $5 gift donated by Prairie Hardware and Gifts was drawn. Guess who? Glenda Brooks again. We told her she better go buy a lottery ticket! Our lunch had apple juice, broccoli cheddar soup and calzone. Don’t know how to spell it, but it is a bread stuffed with cheese and sausage. Really good. I’m just learn- ing so much about different foods! For dessert, we had strawberry yogurt Bundt cake with ice cream. That was really good, too. Lorna and Krystin brought Dorothy Blasing, Lois Hill, Marilyn Randall and Otho Laurance from the Blue Mountain Care Center. We want to thank a cou- ple of members of the com- munity for their cash and meat donations this past month. We really appreciate your support. Daughter-in-love Laurel went to Boise for a TKW tournament. Someone asked if she had recovered from the little auto accident. I think so. She got prizes at the tournament — along with a shiner. Oops. Forgot to duck that one. Saw another “only in Prairie City” sight the oth- er day: Two dogs were taking their goose for a walk. I have no explana- tion. That’s just what we saw.
