The Grant Union/Prairie City Pros-
pector baseball season is just around the
corner, with a nonleague home opener
set for Friday, March 17, against the
Burns Hilanders.
New Prospector head coach Dusty
Williams is taking the lead this season,
and his coaching staff includes junior
varsity coach Doug Sharp, who is also
assistant varsity coach, as well as Russ
Reimers, Brandon Culley, Chris Acker-
man and Art Thunell, the Grant Union
head coach for 28 years who retired in
2005. Unless Sharp’s junior varsity team
is playing out of town or at the same
time, he’ll assist Williams at varsity
games.
Reimers is pitching coach, Culley
works the infi eld and Ackerman the out-
fi eld, with Thunell as hitting coach, and
assisting infi eld and outfi eld at practices.
“The coaching staff has been great,”
Williams said. “There’s a ton of knowl-
edge there. I appreciate their knowledge
and input and dedication to the team.”
He added the support of the adminis-
tration and the community has been pos-
itive. His wife, Stephanie, has also been
supportive and assisted with inventory.
This season’s roster includes 23 boys
with fi ve returning varsity players and
two seniors.
