Here is a schedule of performances: • Seneca School’s “Let it Be Christmas” program will take place at 6:30 p.m. Thurs- day, Dec. 8, at the school with students in kindergarten through grade 6 performing. • The Humbolt Elementa- ry Christmas program is set for 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, at Grant Union Junior-Senior High School’s new gym with students in grades K-6 per- forming. • Dayville School’s talent show is scheduled from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, at Dayville School with students in preschool through grade 12 performing. • Long Creek School will The deadline for What’s Happening items is 5 p.m. Friday. SATURDAY, DEC. 10 Second Saturday Gathering • 9-11:30 a.m., Outpost Restaurant, John Day Ladies of Grant County are invited to the Second Satur- day Gathering. The annual Christmas presentation “Hope & the Light of the World” will feature music and sharing. Kathy Rogers and Lis Davis will present music at the no-host breakfast. Coffee and tea are complimentary. SATURDAY-SUNDAY, DEC. 10-11 W HAT’S HAPPENING Sumpter Christmas bazaar • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sumpter Municipal Museum The Sumpter community will welcome visitors to enjoy the two-day bazaar, along with a Christmas parade and train rides. For more information, call Nancy at 541-894-2264. SUNDAY, DEC. 11 Ugly Sweater 5K • 10 a.m., The Corner Cup, 100 E. Main, John Day Runners can suit up in their fi nest ugly Christmas sweaters, and join a 5K race. The cost to register is $20, and all proceeds benefi t the Tree of Joy program to provide Christmas presents for children in need. Prizes will be awarded for the men, women and children’s di- visions, and for the ugliest sweaters. The course will begin and end at The Corner Cup, following a path through downtown John Day and the Seventh Street Sports Complex. The 5K has been organized by Reitta Wyllie for her Grant Union senior project. Registration forms are available at Grant Union and at The Corner Cup. Timber Trucker’s Light Parade • 6 p.m., downtown John Day This year’s theme is “A Hometown Christmas.” Winners of the awards and cash drawings will be announced at the Elks Lodge immediately following the parade. The entry fee is $10. Registration is from 3-5:30 p.m. at Grant Western Lumber Co., where the parade will begin. The route will lead through town and turns left on the Third Street extension to the Elks Lodge. For more information, call 541-620-4032. Dayville Christmas Tree Lighting • 4:30 p.m., outside Dayville City Hall The City of Dayville is holding a Christmas tree lighting cer- emony. This is the fi rst time the town has added lights to the city Christmas tree. Refreshments will be served, and the Christmas decorating contest winners will be announced. TUESDAY-WEDNESDAY, DEC. 13-14 Spay and neuter clinic • John Day River Veterinary Center Dogs will be seen on Tuesday and cats on Wednesday.
