A2 Family Blue Mountain Eagle Electric co-op announces scholarship, youth tour dates Blue Mountain Eagle. Oregon Trail Electric Co- operative is accepting schol- arship and Washington, D.C., Youth Tour applicants from Grant, Baker, Harney and Union counties. High school students, re- turning students and adults entering educational and technical programs can apply for the co-op’s annual schol- arship program. Two linemen scholarships and 26 academic scholarships will be awarded to applicants. Each scholar- ship is $5,000, and eight of the 26 academic scholarships are earmarked for returning col- lege students. Starting Nov. 7, high school juniors can apply for a one- week, all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., to celebrate the 2017 Rural Electric Coop- erative Youth Tour. The trip will be held from June 9-15. To apply, students can vis- it their local co-op offi ce or otecc.com/community/com- munity to download the ap- plications. The deadline is 5 p.m. on Jan. 13. Scholarship and youth tour recipients will be notifi ed mid-April. Funding for scholarships and the Washington, D.C., Youth Tour come from un- claimed capital credits and their earnings and do not af- fect electric rates. Wednesday, November 30, 2016 G RANT U NION STUDENTS OF THE MONTH — O CTOBER O BITUARIES Alvin Robert Gienger March 18, 1927 - Nov. 14, 2016 Alvin Robert Gienger, 89, passed away peacefully with his wife of 70 years by his side Nov. 14 at Sun Ter- race in Hermiston. Gienger was born on March 18, 1927, in Shasta, Cali- fornia, to Robert and Ruby Thompson Gienger. He grew up on the family ranch on Cottonwood, near Monument. He attended schools in Cottonwood and Monument. Gienger was united in marriage to Donna Buseick of Long Creek on Nov. 1, 1946. Over the years, they lived in Long Creek, John Day, Alaska, Arizona and various other places before settling in Hermiston. He worked as a log loader operator and as a truck driver through the years. He enjoyed hunting, fi shing, traveling and country music. He is survived by his wife, Donna Gienger, Hermiston; sons, Don Gienger and wife, Karen, Keizer, and Robert Gienger and wife, Cathy, Galveston, Texas; six grandchil- dren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grand- children; and four step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Joey; and brother, Ivan. Arrangements are pending in care of Burns Mortuary in Hermiston.
