Prospector Chelsie Ko-
desh excelled defensively
with 19 digs, and Mariah
Moulton had a strong night
offensively with 24 kills, the
coach said.
“As a team, we were
strong at the net with 11
blocks against one of the
strongest hitting teams in
the state,” Speth said. “We
know that when we face Im-
bler again, it will be another
tough battle.”
Grant Union competes at
the Friday, Oct. 21, Wapiti
District Tournament at East-
ern Oregon University in La
Grande where they will face
the winner of the Imbler ver-
sus Union match. Speth not-
ed her team will likely face
Imbler.
Grant Union is guaran-
teed a fi rst-round state play-
off game on Wednesday,
Oct. 26.
The OSAA State Cham-
pionships are scheduled for
Friday and Saturday Nov.
4-5 in Redmond.
“I’m super proud of the
girls,” Speth said. “I think
they surprised a lot of people
with all they’ve done.”
Prospector senior Natalie
Stearns said she attributes
the team’s success to their
good chemistry.
“We just get along so
well,” she said.
Regarding
reaching
their team goal to be league
champions, she said, “There
are no words to describe it.
It’s unbelievable.”
Dig Pink Rally
At Saturday’s Dig Pink
Rally, Grant Union dominat-
ed over Union with scores of
25-14, 25-21 and 25-7.
The Grant Union junior
varsity team also won its
match.
“Dig Pink is always a
good event for us,” Speth
said. “I think it’s important
for the kids to be involved
in something that gives back
and goes beyond themselves
and volleyball.”
This is the eighth year
Grant Union has held the
rally, earning more than
$20,000 for the Side-Out
Foundation for breast can-
cer research and for the
Blue Mountain Healthcare
Foundation, which helps
local women pay for mam-
mograms.
ROUNDUP

“It was a good match for us to
be able to get varsity and junior
varsity players in,” said Tiger
head caoch Tiffnie Schmadeka.
“The girls did a good job keep-
ing the tempo of the game up,
and they served really well.”
Crane posed a tougher chal-
lenge on Saturday when the
Tigers hosted the Mustangs in
Monument.
Crane won 3-0 with scores
of 25-8, 25-15 and 25-9.
“The girls played well ver-
sus Crane,” Schmadeka said.
“We had a lot of opportunities
to work on our blocking and
hitting around a block. This was
good experience for our team,
and we look forward to continue
to work on these two things for
the district tournament.”
Schmadeka said her team is
young and playing at the tour-
nament will be a good learning
opportunity.
“Our goal is to play our
hardest, not give up, and to
have fun,” she said.
Monument/Dayville’s ju-
nior varsity team also hosted
Long Creek/Ukiah Saturday,
the Tigers winning 2-0 with
scores of 25-4 and 25-12.
