On their fourth-down try, Grant Union was stopped at the 16-yard line. Grant Union stopped their oppo- nents’ last drive with two tackles in the backfi eld and a forced fumble. Burns recovered their fumble, and the game ended. “We started off with a drive,” said head coach Jason Miller. “The kids played hard. That’s another physical team.” He noted the younger players on the team stepped up in the game, in- cluding Kellen Shelley who stepped in as quarterback in the fourth quarter. “Kellen, a freshman, managed the offense fairly well,” Miller said. “Defense played really well against their (Burns’) run. We just let a few get by us.” Grant Union has a bye next week and will prepare for their homecom- ing game against the Culver Bulldogs at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, in John Day.
