A6 News Blue Mountain Eagle Delicious contest yields cash prizes By Angel Carpenter Blue Mountain Eagle Some of the pies were still warm from the oven for the Aug. 10 Grant County Pie Bakers Contest. Judges had the sweet job of tasting each of the entries and grading them on a vari- ety of factors. The “taste tes- ters” included Melody Field, Virginia Kendall, Chris Yri- arte, Jim Carpenter and Gary Delaney. Rick Thompson helped plate up the bite-size servings for the judges. Morganne Wyllie of John Day placed second in the youth division with her dou- ble-crust blueberry pie. “It’s fun baking with my grandma Susan Wyllie,” she said. “She usually shows me step by step.” Susan Wyllie won second place in the adult division for her double-crust blueber- ry-apple pie. The pies were later auc- tioned off, the proceeds ben- Seventh Day Adventist Church has announced the winners of its Grant County Fair booth drawing. Sherry Joslin won the red bag.
