Education Blue Mountain Eagle Stewart Scholarship deadline approaching Blue Mountain Eagle Grant County students of higher education can receive a helping hand with expens- es through the Wayne Stew- art Scholarship. Applications must be postmarked by Friday, July 1, for the deadline. Scholarship trust officers said they expect to distribute $560,000 in funds this year. Last year, $581,000 was distributed to 117 students, thanks to the late benefac- tors Wayne Stewart of Day- ville and his son Eminger Stewart III, who made pro- visions in their wills for a perpetual scholarship. The scholarships are awarded for undergraduate, trade or graduate school ed- ucational expenses. For more information, visit the Grant County Edu- cation Service District web- site at grantesd.k12.or.us. Scholarship information is at the lower right of the page. If further assistance is needed, contact Senior Trust Officer Linda Thomas-Bush at 541-465-4120 or Renee Roe at 541-388-8732, at the Private Client Group of U.S. Bank in Bend. EOU appears second on the list of 50 best on- line bachelor’s in educa- tion published by College Choice; fourth on the roster of 50 best online liberal arts colleges for bachelor’s degrees re- leased by The Best Schools; and is in the top seven schools, along with Penn State and Purdue, reviewed by College Val- ues Online for afford- able online economics degrees. “These rankings spot- light what we believe are the strengths of our on- line programs — high ac- ademic quality, flexibility and curriculum keyed to our students’ career plans and success,” said Donald Wolff, EOU’s interim vice provost for Academic Af- fairs. Each site’s ranking sys- tem is weighted slightly different, with College Choice looking at project- ed earnings for graduates and The Best Schools bas- ing their selection on qual- ity and types of programs offered, faculty strengths, school awards, rankings and reputation. Similar- ly, College Values Online factors in academic excel- lence, course offerings, faculty strengths and rep- utation.
