Health Care GRANT COUNTY HAS HIGH؏QUALITY MEDICAL TREATMENT AND SERVICES Blue Mountain Hospital Blue Mountain Hospital in John Day, serving the community since the 1940s, is known for small-town caring and personal attention with a wide variety of medical offerings. Around-the-clock emergency services are available at the 25-bed hospital as well as doctor visits at the clinic located in the building. The hospital, located at 170 Ford Road, also offers surgery, ICU, CCU, labor and delivery with birthing rooms, physical, occupational and speech therapy, X-ray, ultrasound, CT and MRI scans, digital mammography, cardiopulmonary testing, a full-service laboratory and more. Providing healthcare are Dr. Keith Thomas, general surgeon at Blue Mountain Surgery Clinic, and Drs. Zachary Bailey, Dave Hall, Emily Lieuallen, and family nurse practi- tioners Shawna Clark, Nora Healey and Dana Shuey at Strawberry Wilderness Community Clinic. Blue Mountain Hospital paramedics and EMTs offer countywide ambulance service for quick transportation of emergency patients to the hospital. When the need arises, AirLink of Oregon, a Bend-based medical flight service, works in cooperation with the hospital providing flights to hospitals and medical centers throughout the Pacific Northwest. The hospital has an agreement with AirLink’s membership program for air and ground services, however, Grant County Health Department The department’s team of health professionals, including Karen Triplett who is a family nurse practitioner, offers a wide variety of services, including primary and acute care, physicals, family planning and immunizations. John Combs, a registered nurse, has specialized training in communicable diseases and is the emergency preparedness coordinator for Grant County. He is also a registered environmental health specialist for Grant, Wheeler and Harney counties. Maternity care is not offered at the health department, though registered nurse Jenni Workman provides maternity case management, home visiting and helping soon-to-be mothers. She also is the home visiting nurse that is able to see newborns and at risk children. The health department, located at 528 E. Main, John Day. All mandated and recommended children’s vaccines are offered, and children on Medicaid receive them at no cost. There is a small administration fee for vaccines for uninsured or underinsured children. The health department accepts private health insurance and offers a sliding scale for those who are uninsured. Tobacco coordinator, Haley Hueckman, helps with tobacco prevention and education. Marley Winkelman is an advanced practice dental hygienist who runs the Healthy Smiles Clinic and is the dental coordinator. Nancy Jimenez, public health nurse, who works with Karen Triplett and specializes in immunizations, family planning and primary care. Jessica Winegar is the health department RN manager and Joanne Moles provides WIC services. The health department also has the Grant County School based Health Center located at Grant Union Jr/Sr High School at 911 S. Blue Mountain Hospital operates Home Health, Hospice and the Blue Mountain Care Center in Prairie City, a 48-bed, intermediate care facility. They are Medicaid certified only (not Medicare) offering long-term care, day care and respite care.
