VERNON — Alum- ni from the former Mt. Ver- non High School are seeking and compiling material for a book on the history of Mt. Vernon. Proceeds from sales of the book will go toward the Mt. Vernon Scholarship Fund, to be awarded to senior students living in the Mt. Vernon area. The community once had several sawmills, a dredge, box factory, two grocery stores and a grist mill, and was the site of the ¿ rst *rant County Fair. Organizers are seeking family stories and other help for this project, which will preserve local his- tory. Information on business- es, families, school events or anything else that would be of interest to readers is welcome. Organizers plan to meet every couple of weeks to dis- cuss local events and poten- tial items for inclusion in the book. Anyone interested is welcome to attend. Farmers Market meeting Margie Mae Round, 94, of Day- ville, died Feb. 26 at Blue Mountain Care Center in Prairie City. A memori- al service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, at the Dayville Cemetery. A potluck will follow at the Dayville Community Church. Round was born Nov. 5, 1921, in Elgin, to Edgar Cof¿ n and =ada *or- don. She attended Imbler High School and Eastern Oregon University where she received her teaching degree. On July 17, 1943, she married Kenneth Round on Pumpkin Ridge. She taught at the Monument, Long Creek and Dayville schools from 1954-1976. She enjoyed gardening, word puzzles, playing cards, read- ing and baking. She was active in the Dayville Community Church; after she retired, she continued to play piano for the church and school programs. Survivors include her son Dave Round; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Round; daughter, Diane Haefer; and son, Dennis Round.
