MONUMENT –
I went to our home
basketball game this
past Saturday. It was
very exciting! Both our
girls’ and boys’ teams

lost to Crane but they
sure played really hard
and well. Before I came
here to Monument, I never went to a high school basketball game in
my life. I know, I really lived under a rock. I luckily had someone
sitting close by me to explain why someone fouled, and why the refs
called and blew the whistle on someone. My family and I pigged out
on all the concession stand goodies like the maple bars, pretzels and
popcorn. The FFA was there also, selling yummy chicken enchiladas,
beans and rice. The Tigers will have another home game next week
on Saturday here in Monument.
Let’s see, our great chefs, Terry Cade and Carrie Jewell, made
sweet and sour chicken, rice, fresh and delicious salad and a fruit
cobbler for our Jan. 19 lunch. Our greeters were Bob Blakeslee,
Bodean Andersen, and Jimmy Cole. Bob led the flag salute while
Bodean made the announcements and prayed the blessing over our
meal. Jan Ensign won the Len’s Drug gift card. Helen Davidson and
Judy Bustardo won free meals. We had 32 guests and nine
takeouts. We had Ron and Roberta Dowse join us from John Day.

the diners at the Center, Dennis and Linda Dickenson delivered 22
meals to homes.
The entree was furnished by Oregon Trail Electric Co-op. David
Pasko and Margaret Glass greeted us. Marianne Morris sold raffle
tickets.
Our servers were from United Methodist Church, Jean Willey,
Sherry Feiger, and Marge and Alva Conlee. Jean led the flag salute
and Sherry asked the blessing.
Veanne announced that Becky Stewart passed away at the age of
97. It was Veanne’s 32nd anniversary. I would like to thank Vicki
Harrison for helping wrap silverware.
Our guests were Brenda Bissonnett and Pete Fyder from Fossil.
Good to see Pete again. Also Marie Smith and Tina Shorts were here
for the first time. The other first-timer was Pat Amling. Welcome
everyone, please come again.
Pete Ryder won the Chester’s Thriftway gift certificate and
Ron Dowse won the Valley View lunch for two. Thursday, Jan. 28,
we will have beef stroganoff with noodles and on Monday, Feb. 1, we
will have baked Spanish omelette.
1 Peter 1:6-7 “You may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of
trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith ...
may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.”
Ron Dowse wanted us to know that there will be a Pancake Dinner
in Mt. Vernon at the Grange in March. The cost will be $5 for adults
and $3 for kids under 12. I will let you know the exact date later
because I can’t recall at the moment and I forgot to write it down.
Senior moment I guess, no pun intended. Ha.
On Wednesday Jan. 27, there will be a foot clinic here at the Senior
Center. The cost is $35 and they will be here the second and fourth
Wednesday of every month.
Bingo night is Saturday, Jan. 30. The games will start at 6 p.m. We
will be sharing a potluck meal. You never know, you might be a big
winner so come join us!
I hope I will have a relaxing week this week. I don’t really feel like
doing much. I might just do some light cleaning and some laundry. I
will take it easy. I know when my body is tired and I will be sensitive
to listen and not push myself too hard. I know my limits. That was
one good thing I could do and that was to be able to say, “No.” I had
no problem telling my friends “No” if I didn’t think I had the energy
or time to do something. It saved me a lot of grief and guilt. Hope
everyone has a great week and see you all again in February! Yeah, I
know, February already?
2 Thessalonians 1:4-5 “So that we ourselves glory in you in the
churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions
and tribulations that ye endure: Which is a manifest token of the
righteous judgment of God; that ye may be counted worthy of the
kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer.”
