Blue Mountain Eagle SALEM — Hunters who bought 2015 big game or turkey tags need to report their hunt results by Sunday, Jan. 31, for most tags. Hunters are required to report on each deer, elk, cougar, bear, prong- horn and turkey tag pur- chased, even if they were not successful or didn’t hunt. Sports Pac license holders need to report on each big game or turkey issued. For hunts that end be- tween Jan. 1 and March 31, the deadline is April 15. The penalty for not re- porting is $25 upon pur- chase of a 2017 hunting license. The penalty is as- sessed once, regardless of the number of unreported tags. As of Jan. 6, about 50 percent of elk tags, 48 percent of buck deer tags and 60 percent of antler- less deer tags had been reported. To make a report, hunters will need the fol- lowing information: Hunter/angler ID number The two-digit Wild- life Management Unit number of the unit most frequently hunting and, if it was a successful hunt, the unit in which an ani- mal was harvested. The total number of days hunting, includ- ing mentoring youth; the number of days hunt- ed in the unit hunted most; and the number of days hunted in the unit in which an animal was harvested. Reports can be made online at reportmyhunt. com or www.odfw.com. Those who don’t have Internet access can call 1-800-947-6339 to talk to a customer service rep- resentative from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Pacific Time, seven days a week. The Eagle/Sean Hart James Vaughan, front right, listens during a public hearing about a Grant County commercial pot ban in December. Although the county approved the ban for areas outside of incorporated cities, Long Creek City Council recently voted down a similar ordinance and signed off on the first step for Vaughan’s company, Southern Blues Bud LLC, to grow marijuana in the city. Porter said, although he knows some people disagree with his vote, he said the city is complying with state law regarding Measure 91 and avoiding costly legal chal- lenges, while also attempt- ing to boost the economy. “When I took over as mayor, you couldn’t buy a Diet Coke in town on a Sun- day,” he said. “Now, we’ve got two stores, a gas station, a full-service shop. ... We’re a small town trying to sur- vive.” Dan Morrow, who lives on the property adjacent to Southern Blues Bud’s pro- posed grow site, expressed disappointment the city al- lowed the potential grower to move forward in the pro- cess. He said he was told the city would enact a ban, so he did not attend the meeting, which had been rescheduled with little notice. Morrow said, after a large drug bust in Long Creek about a year and a half ago, the town was starting to “get cleaned up.” Allowing pot businesses was a step in the wrong direction, he said. “The people want a nice, little town,” he said. Deadline approaching for livestock producers with ¿re, drought losses to enroll in disaster program Blue Mountain Eagle Baker-Grant County USDA Farm Service Agen- cy Executive Director Trent Luschen reminds livestock producers who suffered graz- ing losses in 2015 due to drought or wild¿re that they have until Feb. 1 to report their losses and to enroll in the Livestock Forage Disas- ter Program. LFP provides compensa- tion to eligible livestock pro- ducers who suffered grazing losses for covered livestock due to drought on private- ly-owned or cash-leased land or ¿re on federally-managed land. Pro Saw Shop and a Whole Lot More 02131 Penalty is $25 for not reporting 2015 tags application for a land use com- patibility statement, which is required before the Oregon Liquor Control Commis- sion will grant a marijuana business license. The appli- cation, which was approved unanimously after the ban was voted down, was sub- mitted by James Vaughan for Southern Blues Bud LLC to grow marijuana. Vaughan declined to comment. The business would have to comply with certain con- ditions, Porter said, but they have not yet been “ironed out.” He said no one he spoke to was in favor of retail out- lets, and the city would be looking at options for other actions in the future.
