A6 Community Blue Mountain Eagle Wednesday, January 20, 2016 G RANT C OUNTY SENIORS John Day Seniors Alma Joslin JOHN DAY — Mon- day, Jan. 11, we were open after planning on being closed for the installation of the new kitchen floor. It had to be postponed until warmer weather so the cooks fixed up a won- derful taco pizza, corn/ Frito salad and churros and ice cream for dessert. There were approximate- ly 30 people present for lunch. Buzz and Bobbie Gilm- ore delivered 19 meals, plus 24 frozen ones to shut-ins. Veanne Weddle helped with the deliver- ies. Ron Dowse and Billie Bullard greeted us. Our servers were Buzz and Bobbie Gilmore and Jeanette Kile. They rep- resented Redeemer Lu- theran Church. Bobbie led the flag salute, and Buzz asked the blessing. Veanne announced that the Red Cross DAT Fair will be held Feb. 6 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We had a couple first-timers today, Den- nis and Sandy Gilson. They are local people so we hope they will join us again. Lenora Thomason won the Len’s Drug gift certificate, and Ben Lu- ethe won the free meal. On Jan. 14, we served approximately 72 meals to in-house diners. It was chicken divan, rice and baby carrots, French bread and, for dessert, warm ap- ple pie. The entree was donated by Iron Trian- gle Logging, and the pies were donated by the Elks Lodge. Thank you, folks, for your donations. Buzz Glass and his daughter, Brandi, deliv- ered 25 meals. Our servers were Carla Anderson, Lin- da Sprouffske, Zola Pike, Donna Mulder, Donna Johnson and Andy Ander- son. They are from Cor- nerstone Christian Fel- lowship. Andy led the flag salute, and Pastor Levi asked the blessing. Susan Fowle and Mar- ianne Morris greeted us, and Dave Pasko sold raf- fle tickets. Ron Dowse did the announcing in the ab- sence of Veanne Weddle. Elmer and Jean Thomp- son had their daughter, Peggy Firkus from Bend, joining them today. It was baby day at our cen- ter. Levi brought his wife and 2-year-old daughter. My granddaughter, Kel- lyn, also came with her son, who is 6 months old. They were both very well behaved children, and it is wonderful to have our younger generation visit with us. Maria won the Ches- ter’s Thriftway gift certifi- cate, and Buzz Harris won the meal for two at Valley View. Thursday, Jan. 21, we will have clam chow- der with a fish entree. Monday, Jan. 25, we will have sausage diablo with rice. JAMES 1:4 “Let pa- tience have its perfect work, that you may be per- fect and complete, lacking nothing.” Charlotte Barker won the Len’s Drug gift card. Doug Sweek and Aaron Harris both won a free meal. The temperature on Monday at 6 a.m. registered 14 degrees; Tuesday, 25; Wednesday, 41. Just dress for the weather, huh? But be pre- pared with layers to either put on or take off. It keeps you from getting bored. The set-up crew of Buzz, Jim and Joe completed their chores as usual. Buzz and Jim delivered 25 meals around town. They didn’t make it back XQWLO DIWHU -RH OHG WKH ÀDJ VD- lute and asked the blessing. We had 79 names on the book. Our faithful volunteer, Pam Howard, won the $5 in trade donated by Prairie Hardware & Gifts. Our volunteer servers in- cluded Carla Wright, Julia Da- vis and JoAnne Phippen. Har- old poured coffee, too. Kitchen helpers included Donna Adams and Linda Boyer. We are so thankful for those who step up to help in time of need. Bless you. We were served grape juice, kale salad, creamed corn, noodles and cheese, meat loaf, rolls and mango-peach-apple fritter with just-made whipped cream on top. Mmmm, good. We thank the Food Bank for the donation of the corn and noodles. Lorna and Kellyn from Blue Mountain Care Center brought Dorothy Blasing, Donna Cox, Marilyn Randall and Lois Hill. It was good to see Billy Drinkwater and Nor- ma Rynearson journey up the river from Valley View. The Site Council held their scheduled meeting after dinner and it was most productive. Bruce Kaufman is the chairman, Harold Preston is vice-chairman, Sandi Rennels is secretary and Linda Boyer is site manager. Other members are Gary Jacobson and Del Lake. Nancy Viggers sat in to observe and is considering be- ing on the board. I appreciate their willingness to serve. The more the merrier, right? Listen, my children, and you shall hear of the tale of the remote control: Back in “The Good Old Days,” when 79¿UVWPDGHLWVDSSHDUDQFH the procedure was to walk to the set, turn it on, change the channel and raise or lower the volume by turning dials on the machine. Then you could sit down until you wanted to change it again. Today we have the wonderful remote control, a ORYHO\LQVWUXPHQW2XUQHZÀDW screen TV remote has 44 but- tons on it. I have no idea what 3/4 of them do. The old VHS remote has 14; the DVD play- er, 39; the sound bar for the TV, 13; the Bose radio/CD player, 26. So now when you sit down to watch TV, you have to have two remotes in hand to oper- ate the TV and the sound bar. Which is why I refuse to get a smart phone! Just heard that getting up and down from a chair is very good exercise, too. Turn them all off and go for a walk! I Tim. 4:8 “For bodily e[ercise pro¿ts a little, but godliness is pro¿table for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.” Church Services In Grant County CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE Sunday School..............................9:30 am Sunday Worship Service .............. 10:45 am Sunday Evening Service................6:00 pm Children & Teen Activities SMALL GROUPS CALL FOR MORE INFO Weekdays: Sonshine Christian School 521 E.
