JOHN DAY – The eight-
lane athletic track at Grant
Union Junior-Senior High
School was completed last
summer, thanks to fundrais-
ing efforts spearheaded by
Shermayne and Ken Boethin
of John Day, with help from
several other track supporters.
About $7,000 remains to
pay for the track, and Sher-
mayne hopes to raise that
with an email campaign.
“Everyone will be asked
to email four people and
ask for a donation of $10 or
more to the Track Restoration
Committee,” she said.
The campaign will begin
April 10.
Checks may be made out
to Grant School District No.
3, with “Track Restoration
Committee” written in the
memo area of the check, and
mailed to: 401 N. Canyon
City Blvd., Canyon City, OR
97820.
A dinner for donors to the
track will be held at the Can-
yon City Community Hall at
6 p.m. Thursday, May 14.
To celebrate the new track,
a ribbon-cutting ceremony
will be held the following day
at Grant Union at the district

grants to bring the $365,000
project to fruition.
