Health Dept: Shots protect Oregon kids face a Feb. 18 deadline Blue Mountain Eagle JOHN DAY – The Grant County Health Department has outlined the require- ments and importance of immunizations for youth in schools and childcare set- tings in Oregon. According to Lindsay Maghan, FNP, shots are required for attendance at all elementary, middle and high schools in Oregon – public, private, charter or alternative – as well as all preschools, Head Start pro- grams and certified child care facilities. Maghan said immuni- zations are required first and foremost because they provide protection for the person receiving them from contracting serious diseases. She said they also help protect those around us and our communities by reducing the number of people vulnerable to those diseases. “When enough people are vaccinated, these dis- eases tend to stop circulat- ing,” Maghan said. Outbreaks occur more frequently in schools and programs that serve young children, she added. Oregon allows two types of exemptions: medical and nonmedical. There are no services planned at this time. William was born to Thomas and Delma (Taylor) Livingston on June 15, 1931 in Lorain, Ohio. He loved the Lord and strove to please Him. Going to church even though physically challenged in the later years, giving all he could, and memorizing verses as His honoring of the Lord. He was a faithful and perfect man, and all that met him remember him as a kind, sweet, loving, generous, compassionate friend and wonderful example of all that is good. He will be dearly missed here, but joyfully welcomed in Heaven. He is survived by Debrah (Terence) Crabb of Canyon City, OR., grandsons Aaron W.R. Crabb (Amber) of San Diego, CA., Joel T.L.
