Mrs. James K. Polk was taken
seriously ill Wednesday the 12inst.
and is in a critical condition. She
has passed a quiet day, hut suffered
periodical attacks of intense pain.
Iler trouble is general congestion of
the system, which her physicians
regard as promising a fatal reeulL
to-night or to morrow, owing to her
extreme age of 88 years.
