Tho price of hops is soaring nnd tho advanco moans monoy in tho pockets of tho Northwest growers. A repetition of tho stirring days of 1904 in tho hop trado is nromiscd. Brewers of tho world nro said to bo facing a. serious shortage of hops. Tho market in Portland has bcen lifted in a fow weeks from 10 to 20 cents. Even old hops com mand good prices. Olfors of 13 cents have been made for tho 1908 crop, that a fow weeks ago went begging for 6 cents. Short crops in England and Germany are reported to be boosting tho price. Oregon lumbermen will partic ipate quite generally in the semi annual meeting of tho Western Pine Manifacturers' Association at Spokane on August 9. The program is an interesting ono and many will go from this state. Among tho speakers will bo Gif ford Pinchot, United States For ester. Conservation and refor estation are subjects that will be -discussed and are of general in terest to lumbermen. Hogs continue to make now record in tho Portland market. What is said to be highest price ever paid in any market in the United States was realized here during the past week when $9.50 was paid for a bunch of fine porkers.
